Front wipers won't shift to change blades
« on: May 22, 2010, 04:14:25 pm »
They used to, now I can't get them to move to the 12 o'clock position to change the blades.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Are you doing it right?

Turn ignition off, pull out key, hit wiper stalk downward once.

I know someone else who had issues with this so have a search.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yes.

I've put the wipers in the 12 position by using the wiper sweep with the key out, instead of pushing the wiper.

It sometimes works pushing the wiper blade itself, upwards. Only when it wants to though

with the car running push the stalk all the way down to get a single intermittent wipe...
switch the car off and straight away without doing anything else push the stalk down again for another intermittent wipe - your wipers should move to the 12 o'clock position (you can take the keys out but i've never done this - i usually do this when taking it for a wash n leave the keys in the ignition)

Taking the key out has no affect, and trying to turn the ignition off before the wipers return 'home' also doesnt help as they do this automatically.

The only way to do it is ignition on, off and wiper down once.  :happy2:

They have worked with the ignition off though, albeit intermittently. I push the wiper upwards and it moves easily, other times it won't shift.
