Unfortunately, after a mapped S3, there's not a lot out there for the money that is a lot faster, however speed isn't everything....

who cares how fast it is as your all talking stock car v mapped up s3 and ed30 its not the same  trust me after jumping out of my ed30 into a 360bhp rwd porsche i was like  all over the floor  its not all about POWER you know its about how the car is to drive and we all know nothing is as good as an S3  candy

i know what your saying mat , power is nt every thing in fact the drive is more important to me but the z4m dont do that brilliantly either , i drove a cayman S the other week and it dont compare to the z4m

RS4 buy it!! I would buy one but I cannot justify it yet

yes but you know the s3 is poo    bland car hence you looking at its bigger brother that has a bit more about it

^^mate if the S3 poo , what is the ed 30 ? ive had both and audi is a head of the golf every where (i know this is a golf forum but come on ) not going for rs 4 cause the s3 is poo i just like a change , dont want to spend much more money than the s3 and i cant find any thing better , looked at a red golf R on pistonheds all the toys looked   but £40 k (we ve been here before )

That might not help you in your search!  I'm surprised you didn't like the Z4M, Ive driven a few 3.0si models and loved them so I can only imagine the Z4m is just better.

Just go for the RS4, I did after my S3, and you'll soon forget about the S3, and realise what a bland drive it is(no offence but you'll know what I mean).  everything you do in the RS4 is such an occasion

Other than that, what about an E92 M3, Ive not driven one, but they look and sound awesome and get rave reviews.

Did you misread my quote, or am I misreading yours, because what you've put is what I said!  Speed/power isnt evrything, for me its more the complete package.

That might not help you in your search!  I'm surprised you didn't like the Z4M, Ive driven a few 3.0si models and loved them so I can only imagine the Z4m is just better.

In some aspects the 3.0si Sport is better than the M. Some find that the M (especially the coupe) is too stiff and I would say after driving both models a fair bit that the handling on a 3.0si Sport is generally better. And  in terms of the M, a Cayman would walk all over it in the corners. But the M has such a sense of occasion with that engine sound, and it looks fantastic! So for that reason I wouldn't buy the M for it's handling.

If a person wants BMW ownership, coupled with the sense of occasion that the S54 engine provides and handling to suit then they should consider an E46 M3! All IMO of course

i did like the z4m but i was expecting it to be better so i felt a little disapointed tbh i m not a bmw fan , the car with the roof down didnt make the noise i was expecting either , lovely car to look at and i expect once you got used to it nice to own too

Thats what it mostly bears down to - especially with German car fans. They're either a VAG fan, BMW fan or Merc fan and the majority don't really deviate at all! (not criticising, just stating, so not a comment towards anyone in this thread haha)!

i ve had a z4m today for a good 2 hours test drive , it is an 08 plate roadster in sepang bronze , lovely looking car so here are my thoughts .....  first start up the engine sounds great well exhaust sounds great the 3.2 m3 engine is super quiet BUT imo my s3 with non res milltek on song sounds as good if not better , its a fast car BUT my s3 with stage 1 CC is faster (not as much torque by quite a way )but much more go , build quality again imo the audi has the edge here too , the interior is like chalk and cheese compared to my s3 the bmw rattles and squeeks all over the place seats are good but no where near the vag recaro s, the general drive and handling is good , its well planted BUT nothing like the s3 ,  so overall the z4m is a nice sports/ soft top car BUT not as good as s3 in any area really , hth   TC

Why are you saying that the ZM has more torque i thought that you had a remap on the s3 ! If the ZM makes more torque than your s3 id be taking it back and telling them to get it sorted you should be at least 50lbft up on a Z4m.
Also saying that one of the sh*ttest sounding petrol engines ever made sounds better than a straight 6 M engine is bloody bonkers ! even if you have a miltek it still isnt a patch on the M tunes IMO, Infact im sure your probably one of the only people in the world who think this !

Not getting at you mate, its just that someone on the forum is looking at buying one, and wanted to make sure he had the correct information

i must be unique then pal cause the M noise did nt do that much for me , dont know about the torque figures but the z4m felt like it had more grunt , 1st gear is nt needed ! what car do you drive pal ?

ive had two M3s previous though, i cant remember of the top of my head but the S54 (m3 Z4M Powerplant) makes roughly 264lbft and i would of expected a mapped s3 to make over 300.

i agree my s3 should be 300 + torque must just be how the car feels difference between big 6 and 2.0 turbo, the s3 is fine pal been giving it a work out on some good b roads today and trust me the custom code is spot on
