Turbo Whistle... Possible Fault??

Hi guys, not sure if it's a problem or not but on the way to work today I noticed the following:
Whilst I had the window down under hard acceleration, the "whistle" noise from the turbo seems to gradually get louder then gets to certain point (around 3000 revs) and then suddenly drops right back.
It's almost as if it gets to a certain point then looses pressure or goes into safe mode or something??

Anyone experienced this before? Maybe that it's normal but i'm just curious.

All gears? Mine does this in 2nd under normal acceleration, foot down hard and it struggles for grip. 3rd gear upwards it pulls all the way and whistles like mad  :driver:

Remapped?

Happens in all gears and not remapped (although thinking about it!)

But it still pulls as strong when the noise dies down?

What turbo is it.?? k03 or K04.

K04 is alot more audible especially on throttle lift off.

Still pulls but not as strong as when the whistle is louder.
Never been in another one so have nothing to compare it too.

Not sure what turbo, is there a way for a simpleton to tell?

Do you have the standard GTI (K03) or the 30th anniversary edition (K04) ?

Hi guys, convinced myself I have a split DV so as I've only had the car a couple of weeks I'm gonna get it booked in at the garage. My only concern is it's not a main dealer but a general car sales place so hope it's covered!

Just a bit info on the fault, it's definately lacking power and the turbo whistle is really loud.
Also, seems to be worse under hard acceleration as a pose to gentle.

That's what I thought, on a positive note, seem to be getting 5 miles per gallon more since the problem started!

Whereabouts are you Pullafacial?

Its an easy job to swap the DV, about 4 bolts and a plug and your done.

Hi Pazz, I'm in north Norfolk. Been searching for a guide for replacement but can't find one.
Is it easy to get to or does the car have to go up on ramps?

From what I gather, dv stands for dump valve which is the component that disposes of used air from the turbo.
I could be wrong but I've put 2 and 2 together and that what I've come up with!
