New Pics of the old girl....(warning - soot chucker !)
« on: May 25, 2010, 08:38:59 am »
Hi all,
Been a while since I posted some pictures of the old girl. She's just had her fifth birthday and looks as good as ever. I've added a few bits and pieces since the last time I posted images (highline dash and TPMS). Also just had the alloys refurbished.

Hope you like ?

Remember the MFD2?

Cheers
Andrew

You know, I must be one of the few that actually prefer the non chrome MK5 version. ETTO I suppose....

Now what I'm really thinking about is upgrading the MFD2 to the RNS510... just got to work out the pennies and find a way to sell it to she who must be obeyed

Nope, all my own work. Got to keep on top of it when you own a black car.

As regards the Highline, Darren (mortygttdi) tried a couple of times to source and fit one and wasted many an hour of his precious time on my car trying to get it to work (for which I still owe him  :happy2:). Problem was trying to get hold of a set of clocks for my age of car that would work. In the end I contacted a company called Hazzydayz, who are VAG specialists.

They supplied the brand new (still sealed in the box) cluster, and had the genuine VAG VAS tablet for programming. The whole thing cost quite a bit (about £400) but the stealer wanted more, and didn't even want to do it !. The owner, Gareth Hawkridge was a real nice and knowledgable chap to deal with, and the whole operation went pretty smoothly. Of course these sort of  modifications aren't worth the money, but you've got to have it - right ?

Looking very nice, the two tone cabin is growing on me, is it really a GT? Thought they had different front grills.

I prefer the MK5 version as well tbh, looks less fussy

Yeah it's a 2005 GT 2.0 TDi (the 140 version but mapped) pre face lifted model. The later GT's and GT Sports had the GTI style bumpers.

I changed the radiator grill a while back for a Caracteur (sp) one !

Thing is chaps, I love browsing this froum and lusting after some of the special motors on here. I love the GTi, ED30 and R32, but to be honest don't think I could afford the fuel to run one (lol).

The beauty of this motor is that I managed to spec it to a good level of equipment, then gradually add the bits I missed (or couldn't afford at the time) - Sat Nav, Highline, Ipod Prep, Bluetooth etc.

But most of all, with the ST3 map, it pulls like a steam train even in 6th gear. Obviously nothing like as quick as a true Gti, but I manage approx 48-54mpg tank after tank  :happy2:
