make sure you get the right one mate.. i got a set supposed to be right for an Ed30 and the rear one was wrong..

Take the old one off first (just pull the chrome i case you didnt know) and see if its bevelled underneath or flat

good luck

Dont bother buying the badge from the above link, I bought on about a year ago and there is no possible way it will fit, Checked the part number and it actually a mk4 golf rear badge being sold for a mk5,

This statement should have sounded alarm bells to me
"please keep in mind the badge may require modifications to the trunk release and / or the backside of the emblem, since there are different MK5 models on the market"

Complete and utter rip off from "goingfast"

Bugger  :sad1: - wish I'd read this post before ordering.  They can add me to the list of wasted money on a non fitting badge.
I'll just paint my chrome one !!!

I have emailed them so we'll see what they have to say

Hope the next person reads this before wasting their money

I got the exact same reply, thanks for letting me know not to bother with them.
I'll just wait and buy a late spec handle instead.

They told me it would fit straight on a later style handle as mine had the early white worm one, so a trip to vw under warranty got that changed and guess what, It still didn't fit, It was only when exploring other options i found the badge was actually a mk4 golf boot badge.
Unfortunately i had to break the bad new to my Friend to who wanted me to help him fir the same badge.

Think i may have to send 'goingfast' a email to try and get them to stop ripping people off!

Edit: Below is the email i have just sent, I await there reply

Hello,
I purchases one of the rear badges some time ago and no way will the badge fit with any amount of modifications, It has been brought to my attention that many people on the forum is use have the same problem and on further inspection what you appear to be suppling is a badge for the rear of a mk4 golf with the seal cut off.
Please can you supply me with fitting instruction to see exactly how you have achieved fitting this as i have tried it on bother the early and later style badges now?
Regard
Jay.

Hello ,
thank you for your message.

To install the MK5 trunk badge you will have to remove the stock badge. For this we recommend to disassemble the trunk release mechanism to avoid damages to the trunk. After removing the stock badge only the backing plate of the release mechanism is left and you can use the tape on the back side of the badge to install it.
Some models have an convex back plate. There you will have to remove the tape from the badge and modify the backside of the badge to fit the back plate. After this you can use some glue to install the badge.

Reply back from me,

I have tried this method with both style of boot handles and it does not work the badge does not sit right for the boot mechanism to work nor fit securely.
I would appreciate it if you could send me some pics of the installation.
Regards
Jay

I have a fully functional MK5 one that started to get white worm so I swapped it. If someone wants one to modify and paint without risking their own then PM me.

£10 + Postage.
