VW emblem on key fob
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:57:02 pm »
Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the VW emlem on the key fob?
The dealer tells me I need to order another key.

I think with a little creative imagination their must a way around this?

Cheers
Lee

I had a Wolfsburg one off e bay, Paid £5 for it, and after about 6 weeks the logo was all scratched off, Think the VW ones are better quality though.

Lee, I have had the same problem and the dealer also mentioned that I had to order a while new key. But then I realised it was coming from a blonde service desk lady.

P/N is here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1906.msg179306.html#msg179306

I managed to get mine on warranty so cant honestly remember how much it was.

As mentioned earlier, just get one off ebay. Should only cost you a couple of quid.  :happy2:

And risk the logo coming off two weeks down the line or it not fitting 100%. There are some stories of the eBay versions being a different shape and sticking out a little more.

ive had a few good ones of ebay but the last 2 i got were poor fitting and would nt fit properly at all,  so id go genuine if i were you.

i think gen ones can be had off ebay tho, but are harder to come by

Well I changed mine (brought off ebay) when I first had my golf, and that was April 2008. Still on there now, good and strong!

I guess there will be different versions, pretty sure mine is made from metal though, as opposed to the sticker type things...
I do remember that the seller did state that they were genuine VW ones.

My boyfriend has replaced his aswell and again, no probs to date...

The genuine ones are made out of aluminium and DO NOT have a self-adhesive on the reverse. I just used a small amount of super glue.

I'm in the same boat - for the sake on a couple of quid, I'd much rather have a genuine one. Buy cheap, buy twice IMHO.

Can you replace the buttons seperately as well?
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

The fob actually detaches from the key section (the top section comes away from the bottom).

Leaving you with this:

But last time I looked these were circa £40-50 from VW and then you will need it coding to the car.

EDIT: To be fair, you might then be able to take apart this section even further leaving you with just the buttons. But I wouldn't really know to be honest.
