« on: June 05, 2010, 10:26:27 am »
My rear badge has got white worm so its time to replace it. When i get the new one should i apply anything to it to try and prevent any further corrosion?

Thanks

As above mate. Wont happen with new badge. I replaced my old one as it suffered from the dreaded white worm.
Fairly easy job to do, worse part was removing the wiper arm! some people say you dont have to totaly remove the wiper motor, just losen it and turn it to get to one of the screws thats holding the boot badge/handle in place.

I believe on the earlier models the VW badge was all one piece ie the black base and the silver bit are all one piece. On later models, you can separate the silver VW bit from the black base. This silver bit can then be wrapped or painted a different colour.

^^^^
So although separable in two pieces can't the silver piece still get white worm?

Even the Monza wheel centre caps can get white worm! :fighting:

As usual, I'm talkin about things I don't have a clue about. Just something I remember.

I'm sure about ten other people know the proper answer.

I think I'd better head back indoors. The sun's getting to me a bit.

Punch have a look at a few of the members rides. The VW bit can be wrapped in carbon fibre or it can be painted to give it a different look.  The VW emblem can be separated. This is what is meant by two piece and I believe doesn't suffer from white worm.

Think they are about £95 ish from vw but put a post in the wanted section as people who fit the rear reversing camera will have a boot badge/handle going spare. Fairly easy to fit, will take you about 1hr

1 model:
white worm model i stanced from one piece of metal, lower areas painted black upper areas polished the clear laquer on top, which enables white worm to appear.
Look carefully and you will see the "tap" that holds the metal logo to the handle

2 Model:
Black plastic bottom with small holes to fit chrome plastic VW logo on top of.

Cheers guys just dont want the same thing to happen when I replace mine. If the newer badge does not suffer then i suppose i have nothing to worry about
