I can't understand why people choose 24 month contracts. Just too long to have the same phone imho.

was cheaper at the time :(

i had the 2g iphone and then got the 3g on a free upgrade... then paid off contract early when the 3gs comes out and will probs have to do the same for the 4 in a few weeks.. i can get £300+ for my jailbroken 3gs on eBay so its not an issue

i would get it on the bay quick as the prices are tumbling fast! 3gs is old news now mate

Just get a SIM-free phone...

I was told that you cannot insure PAYG handsets when used with Pay Monthly Sim's because call charges are not covered in the PAYG insurance policy.

Just worked out it would cost me £360 to buy out my £45 a month contract! Think I'll wait a bit!

To be fair, the 3GS is still a decent handset. It will support iOS 4.

Unless O2 come out with some fantastic upgrade packages, I'll be quite happy to stick with my 3GS until next June. Lets face it, O2 have supposedly been doing very well out of the iPhone 3G/3GS and as such has a large share of the iPhone market. Its in their best interest to try and retain this market share with the iPhone 4.

I can see 3G handsets falling through the floor due to them being discontinued and not supporting many of the iOS 4 features. I notice they are listed as out of stock on the Apple store.

Surely you could lower your tariff?

The best scenario for all of us stuck with a 3GS is for O2 to offer a flat rate termination fee of something along the same lines as AT&T offer of £100 plus £10 per month of contract still remaining.

EDIT: Just seen this on the O2 iPhone forum O2 to charge £20 per month to upgrade to iPhone 4

never questioned it been a decent handset, its the dog dangles  :happy2:

but as with most gadgets as soon as a newer model comes out the resale value of the older device plummets

just look at what carl posted about 02 recycle scheme, the 3gs was valued almost £50 less the day after the iphone 4 was announced

For info, O2 will unlock your iPhone if your a pay monthly customer. You can do this online HERE but it takes a few weeks to be enabled.

Mine took 4 days through O2:confused:

I'm very glad I made the educated decision to resist the temptation to upgrade to a 3GS and run my 3G on a rolling contract (like a few here I believe). Should be really interesting how much leverage that will get me with O2 considering I could just cancel with a months notice and go Orange.

...... go Orange.

I'd rather slash my bell end with a rusty razor than go with Orange

I never had a bad experience with Orange during the many years I was with them. I only went to O2 because of the iPhone. I guess it's horses for courses where mobile phone companies are concerned.

I'll second that, all ever got on orange was text messages saying I'd missed calls.  Why? because i never had a signal anywhere
