I fail to see how anyone can be using anywhere near 500 Mb a month, unless they've hacked it and are using it to tether...

In all fairness, thats only 15mb a day or there abouts and as most "SmartPhones" now load the full pages not mobile friendly pages it wont take much at all to hit that. A few flashy banners and pictures and you'll be well on your way add in to that catching up with a friends Facebook album etc maybe a few YouTube vids and mailing the links to your mates and you'll go past it easily

Hmmm it depends aswell if you have ever reset your network settings as that resets your data usage and i can't see a lifetime option anywhere. Only for calls and even that resets.

I reset mine as was having some probs a while ago and ive only used 178mb in 2 months so hopefully i will be ok with 500mb

Dilema now is do i pay £180 to get out of my contract (ends apr 11) sell my 32gb 3GS for £250 therefore giving me £70 towards the cost of the new phone.

OR

Do i wait till my contract ends go onto simplicity and wait for iPhone 5

OR

Wifes Contract on hers ends June next year. So get iPhone 4 now then when 5 Comes out get it on her contract and give her the 4

I think i know which option i'll use

I get what you're saying but mine has never been reset and the total usage is 933 Mb, in two years. I use the thing all the time.

Yeah but mines on 5.1Gb and I've had this iphone 10-11 months so I reckon I'll be pretty close to 500MB a month

The vodafone tarrifs now seem to be offering 1024mb compared to the 500mb offered by O2 and they are listing the iPhone as coming to them.
Guess it will depend on your contract status more than anything tho

Unlimited data is over rated, I got myself an iPhone to use on Orange, called them to get the data upped and was told the 750MB bundle was £10 or so but I had to sign up for 18months minimum (no chance!), the 500MB bundle was £4.26, no tie in.

I use my iPhone all the time for work, there is rarely a day when it stays above 10% battery - I would stuggle to get anywhere near the 500MB limit.

It did cost me £50 recently for data when in Portugal mind you  :surprised:  only a few MB too.

Just read this -

O2 Ends Unlimited Mobile Data Plans For Smartphones

Quote
10 June, 2010, by James Cullimore
O2 is set to stop offering unlimited data on its smartphone tariffs.

From 24 June, any smartphone bought on an O2 contract will be subject to a 'fair usage' data cap.

Any customers signing up for contracts worth £35 per month and under after this date will be given a monthly data allowance of 500MB. Those on £40-£45 per month contracts will get 750MB. Users on the top-end contracts worth £60 per month can download up to 1GB data for free.

Users will be charged £5 for every additional 500MB they use over the data limit.

Existing O2 customers will still be able to access unlimited data on their smartphone - as long as they stay on the same plan.

O2 has stated that the move has been made in response to customer requests for clearer pricing from the company.

Yeah I saw that on the O2 tariffs bit but the promo only lasts till October then you revert to the cap for your plan.
