Anyone intesrested in a SSD?

Im looking to buy a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (240GB) for my MacBook Pro 13.

These badboys are probably the best SSDs you can buy right now (feel free to check some reviews!), since they come with the SandForce controller - many other SSDs come with an Indlinx controller, which are also prone to slowing down after a little usage (something to do with the overwriting of data etc).

For those who dont know, SSD drives are like normal HDDs in size and shape, but rather then have a spinning disc, they have memory chips - like you find in USB Keys/drives. hence they run super fast, completely silent, use less power (no moving parts), and emit less heat. Basically, they're the future!
When I say they are fast, I mean SUPER fast!

As I said, Im getting one for myself, but if I want to purchase 2, I can get them at £1k.
Just wondering if anyone else wants to get one as well, and we can get them at £500 each and save £90.....

Obviously they come brand new retail boxed and sealed.

i believe apple will be releasing a solid state time capsule soon. ssd hardrives are already available, although extremely expensive, for their laptops

you can get a 1tb normal hard drive time capsule which is also a wifi n base station and allows wireless back up for £234

as ssd becomes more mainstream which it certainly will do, the prices will plummit, so I would hold fire

Ok, what I have:

MacBook Pro 13, which Ive only just got.
A 4TB external HDD, which has 2x2TB disks in RAID, so one is automatically mirrored to the other - this is for all important stuff like backups, photos, videos of the kids, etc.
I have a 500GB small external HDD (USB Powered), which I carry around with me for my work and home files.

Im now buying the SSD drive to speed things up on my MacBook.

Im also planning on a Time Capsule at some point, so I cant keep backups on my Time Capsule, Photos/videos on my 4TB drive, and have everything availble to me via wireless.

Considering they would need to use a SSD thats at least around the 500GB mark, you are probably look at around the £800-£1k mark for a Time Capsule with a decent SSD with todays prices I reckon!! lol

Then again, we're talking Apple here - lets make that £1.5k!

true it wont be cheap as nothing with apple is, but as I mentioned earlier ssd will come down in price soon

you only have to look at those keyring flash drives, not long ago they were £60-100+ depending on capacity, now my company hands out 1gb ones free to potential new clients when we open up new buildings, they do come with floor plans and marketing info but easily deleted

I have a 2.5TB media server (2x 2.5TB in RAID)

500GB Media Center

and 1TB work station with a 500GB external drive...

It's not just the volume of porn, you need to back it up incase one of the drives fails! 

I'm biding my time SSD, still a bit too new and expensive for my liking.

IMO I would have gotten one of the Crucial C300 ssd's as apart from being sata3, has a higher read speed than the drive you've purchased. This drive also supports TRIM and it's firmware is user upgradable.

The Vertex 2 also has TRIM support and user upgradable firmware.....

The C300 seems to have broken TRIM support. It was meant to be fixed in a firmware update, but the update was pulled shortly after release as it was bricking the drives. Subsequent firmware updates have not been very reliable. I think they've just released a firmware now which is fixing things though....but this is what put me off of the C300. besides, for normal use the speed difference would not be noticeable.
