Ok so I guess the long and short of it is...if I fit the rns 510 no direction indicator on the dash. Is that the only limitation for the rns 510?

I take it this cannot be retro changed to highline?

Does cruise control have the same requirement for the highline to be fitted?

 :sad1:

Can have Highline retrofitted but you have to make sure youget the correct year then get it coded. Can work out costly. would have been better if VW made the £50 optional extra standard instead.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

will it accept SDHC cards or just the old style SD cards, also has anyone tried the tv attachment like listed on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TV-Free-Video-Motion-Interface-RNS510-MFD3-Plug-Play-/250641331128?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item3a5b6333b8#ht_1940wt_913

SD /SDHC depends on which version you get and the firmware its running. I'd always recommend going for a B unit at least, C may be more future proof

No ones mentioned that if you don't have Highline display its not the end of the world, as the items that would have been displayed in it, can be displayed on the RNS via a split screen display. RNS gives you about 5 options of what is displayed in the split screen including what's shown in the highline (symbols for the next turning) as well as compass, GPS coordinates including number of satellites tracked etc.

If you had a battery drain issue you would know straight away.........well the morning after the night before so to speak. :sad1:

Mine is a version C with 2660 firmware in a 2005 car. The battery would always go flat overnight.
I did a temporary fix with a relay, an inline fuse holder and some genius wiring in the engine bay fuse box so I didn't have to remove the fuse every night. It stopped the battery drain, but obviously meant the RNS was rebooting each time you turned the ignition on.

It's all sorted now with a new can gateway.  :happy2:

I think they're about £150+ from the dealer and any where from £50 to £100 on eBay depending what's on.

Any version of the gateway from 1K0 907 530 L to 1K0 907 530 AF should stop any battery drain

well i fitted the unit with no problems and all is working fine,so i thought! the problem i found on the way home from work, was that none of the buttons are illuminating around the touchscreen! they illuminated when i unlocked car and welcome lights came on, but as soon as i put keys into ignition they all went out, only screen working. im sure this is not right , was wondering weather theres an easy fix to the problem, could not see anything obvious
thanks in advance

Sorry for the bump but if anybody knows why the buttons don't illuminate, I need to know weather the unit is faulty and hopefully get a replacement. Asap
