apr 250bhp mk5 v s3 315bhp quattro
« on: June 10, 2010, 10:55:19 pm »
well today I recieved a call from my friend who was on his way down with  a mate of his to buy a remapped 08 s3 (315bhp) quattro

so took the gti up to meet up when he got back

he took me out in the s3 then pulled in and let me blast it back down the road

first impressions:
interior finishings were amazing, total class apart and it really stuck to the road. Pulled beautifully in all gears and generally was incredible stuff.

( the roads round here are amazing and there were plenty of twistys as well as some awesome straight sections to really give it some beans.)

so got back and I took the gti out.

expecting to be completely humbled.

straight away he says.

wow tartan seats, jumps in and says wow this wee things great.

( I just thought he was being nice )

anyway off we go same road etc,

first thing he says is this is really quick. it feels so urgent,  love the steering wheel, its much better than mine, nice and chunky

into a few corners and he is grinning from ear to ear, straights come and it pulls near enough bang on to the s3

this is am awesome wee car.

dv and induction kit make it seem so much more of an event, feels more connected than the s3 etc etc.

so we pull up and he is well impressed.

i was proud as punch :happy2:

now considering the s3 is 14k more i think part of him was thinking hmmmm

so drove home happy as larry and I couldnt be more happy with my car  :driver:

the longer i have it the better it gets :)

although average of 18mpg tonight means its another fill up tomorow

the end:

This thread is interesting to me, because I've been seriously considering getting an 8P S3 later this year, or early next year.

I'm thinking some suspension work, bigger brakes and a cheeky remap on the GTI might be money better spent after reading that though...

Nice result there mate, although i'm a little suprised that the GTI matched the S3 pace wise as a mapped S3 should be a fair amount quicker..

It probably is, but additional sounding proofing and the Haldex does a good job dulling the sensation of speed, especially compared to a GTI. A mapped K03 is always going to feel that little bit more eager as well, compared to a K04.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

And although the Audi will doubtless attract more girls, you dont want to ruin your chances completely

There is no doubt that the GTI is a capable car and can provide just as much excitement as an S3 if not more. When I first got my S3 I found it relatively dull in comparison to my old ED30 however after owning the car for over a year now I can honestly say that this is not the case. Point to point it is devastatingly fast and would run circles round my ED30 on a back road/track. I understand what you are saying though, I would much rather have £14 large in my bank
