Edition 35 posibilities
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:56:41 pm »
OK, so say VW do release a 'Edition 35' model and lets say the chances are they will put the K04 unit on it, with say 235hp - its got to be less that the R but more than the standard GTI and after the 1hp for every year for the Edition 30 lets say they continue with this trate.

So pricing - cheaper than the R but more than the GTI so lets say £26-27k basic.

What would peoples thouths be on this ?

no real reason for this, just a thought I had the other day as people slate the price of the R but then looking at some of the GTI price its not like these are cheap - anyway, thats waht 'random chat' is there for eh

Oh, one last thing - when would a Ed35 be due out if they do release one?

Late 2011 to 2012 I'd have thought? So proper end of line before the MKVII.

They hinted at an R26.R style track weapon at Worthersea. Really hard to make a call on this one, as the R has never been so GTI-ish as it is now.

There is another version of the TFSI lump listed on ETKA (as well as some GTI "Edition" parts, for example the R LED tails are now listed for Golf R and GTI "Edition").

So I think it's on it's way very soon  :happy2:

i reckon if there is one it won be the gti, it will be on the R models.  and id bet it' be 300Hp to compete with the focus RS figures.  cant imagine it being a stripped out R26R style one though, as it goes against the golf ethos really.

The two versions of the engine are 199KW (265BHP) which we know is the Golf R and the new version is 188KW (250BHP).

Its follows the pattern of the Mk5 GTI to Edition 30 progression and keeping the GTI just under the power output of the R.

it should be a Golf R killer in my opinion, take the Golf R chassis and add the 2.5t lump from the Audi TTRs

Lets face it if it does come around then it will be a 2.0T lump, if they wanted a RS type beater then the 2.5T lump would be great but isnt it only in the TT-RS for now, so not widely used just yet.

I cant see it being a 235hp model. Seen as the R is a 2.0 litre lump I would like to see the Edition 35 to be a slightly more hardcore version of that.

But as someone said its usually the GTI that is the special edit.

2.5 RS lump would be mental but unlikely  :sad1:

I have been hedging my bets that they do release one, revert back to one sided twin pipe zorst for a start and some cool BBS wheels

I would have thought they would stick with the GTI badge on this one, not the R

As 182 mentioned it will no doubt have some R bits and some different wheels.

Now the question would you choose that over the R ..??

I would imagine the ED35 should be available mid 2011 will be a GTi with some extra HP, different bumpers, a interior with some funky coloured stitching and some BBS wheels

Thats what i think but what i do know is ive got my deposit sitting in the bank waiting for the word go  main reason is ive always wanted a anniversary golf i missed the ED25 and 30 so im going to get the ED35 it could be a overpriced turd but hey ive set my mind on one :drinking:

First time I saw an Edition 30 it was in red next to a Steel Grey GTI which I preferred and had my heart set on one which was a bit of a dream at the time in 2007 and low and behold I saw a Black ED30 and just had to have it in 2008.

No doubt it will be good whatever they do with it. Wont have just a 5bhp power hike though, that would just be stupid all imo of course.

It'll absolutely be a GTI, 4 pot and 2WD. VW has always maintained that the R is a separate brand and we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the GTi after all.

I'm with those saying it'll sit somewhere in between the GTI and R in terms of power and price, I also expect them to play reasonably safe  and add some nice cosmetic bits. Much as I'd love to see them do something bonkers.
