Strange but desperate request!!
« on: June 15, 2010, 11:36:07 am »
Does anyone in the Southampton area have a highline speedo cluster from a 2005 GTI which I can borrow. The car is at the dealer with a problem which I can't explain on the forum, although happy to over the phone to someone with a cluster. Pm me for my number.

A new cluster is £300 roughly and VW don't have any in stock with no imminent delivery expected. The problem is that we don't know if that will cure the problem anyway and I don't want to buy one on the off chance.

I only need the cluster for a few minutes literally, (unless someone happens to be selling one and it does the trick)

Hi Joe

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am, it is a very long story. :sad1:
Would a non highline work, or would the dealer need to code it before they could test it?
Are you around Soton?

Ok Joe, thanks anyway but that won't solve my problem. I need one that won't need coding just to test the car. If VW have to code they will charge even more than they are already.

Thanks again for trying.

tony, they are going to need to code ANY other clock for it to work with the car, highline or not. I can appreciate you might not want to explain the problem on an open forum, but you will get more out of the bofs on here if you explain the ins and outs. people will be better at suggesting a solution then  :happy2:

Hi mate, I understand that, but I really don't want to say much on here. Suffice it to say that the car was stolen and I got it back, but now it doesn't work. :sad1:
If there are any bofs that can help with this type of problem I am happy to ring them if they pm me their number.

well, if thats the case then, it is definitely worth paying VW to rectify what has gone on. would you really want any immobiliser work done by anyone other than VW? would look well dodgy other wise

only other thing is if you can get a print out of the fault codes that the dealer are getting when reading the ECU with diagnostic software.
we may be able to help with the codes, there are websites and some pretty knowledgeable people on here.

Any clock would do, Highline or not.  The dealer will be able to programme it using the online database.  No matter what you get it will need matching to your car and then re-matching to the donor car (if you borrowed one)

Have they checked the Immo reciever on the lock barrell??  Ideal place to look if they nobbled the ignition to try and start it.
