Question re copying to the RNS-510 HDD
« on: June 15, 2010, 04:49:15 pm »
Hi Guys,

With massive thanks to Darren (mortygttdi), I now have my RNS-510 in pride of place in the dash of my Golf. Top banana mate  :happy2:

Quick question please regarding copying tracks from a SD card to the RNS. As mine is running FW 1100 (to avoid any battery issues), I'm having to transfer my files across using a couple of Sandisk Extreme 2GB SD cards.

My question is thus:

I have decided on the following structure for my SD cards / HDD (rightly or wrongly)

>MUSIC  (Root Folder)
>>Compliation Albums
       >>> Various ALBUMS
>>Male Artists
      >>> Michael Jackson
              >>>> Albums of Michael Jackson
>>Female Artists
      >>> Madonna
              >>>>> Albums of Madonna etc.

You get the idea. I have 4 Main folders under the main folder (called "MUSIC"). Within "MUSIC" are sub folders "COMPLATION ALBUMS", "FEMALE ARTISTS", "MALE ARTISTS", "GROUPS"

In these sub folders (say Female Artists) are other folders of "MADONNA", RHIANNIA, PINK etc etc, with the albums belonging to these artists contained within.

If I then insert another SD card with more artists in the same subfolders as the original SD card (i.e. Compliations, Male Artists, Female Artists etc), and just copy the whole SD card, will the RNS just add the new artists and albums into the existing folders on the HDD, or will it just wipe whats on the HDD and overwrite with the new SD card information ? Or do I have to drill down to each sub folder and copy all new albums for an artist that already exists on the HDD individually?

Difficult to explain but I hope someone understands ?  :laugh:

i did a similar thing, and the RNS arranged it to how i wanted it.

it intergrated nicely.

And with it being my old unit, i know it will work how your say! ;)

even when they're off, they make such a difference. They just bring it up to date.

Same as xenons  :evilgrin:
