It depends on the car. IIRC standard GTI cars, it's in a near-impossible place to reach. On Edition 30 cars, it's a bit easier to reach.

I'm sure someone will come along with a how-to guide!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The regular GTI isn't to bad but the car needs to be on a ramp really, ED30 is a doddle

i did mine when it was on axle stands when i fitted the forge spacer.  It was awkward but do-able.

when i removed the forge spacer, due to its chav sound, i did it on ramps and it took probably less than half of that.  still insanely awkward.

Mines k03 BTW

Hi it's a gti.  I've got no chance of putting it on a ramp at home, so best to get it
booked in soon, the part itself is quite resonably priced but the people at Vw really do get away with daylight robbery when it
comes to fitting.

dont pay anyone to do it in a dealership.  go to a small independent garage and it sholdnt cost any more than £20 to get fitted.  all they have to do is remove the cover from under the engine(2 minutes) and remove and replace the DV(only 3 bolts, just awkward to reach)

on a ramp id say 1/2 hour start to finish, and no more

I've already booked it in at the Vw , so I'll pick the part up instead and get someone independant to do it,
I've also got a pcv (pressure valve ) that needs replacing , Ill probably have a go my self in doing that job as I've been told it fits below the panel filter and takes roughly about 20 minutes.

Thanks for all the info guys, really appreciated.

You could do it on Axle Stands (i did mine on a Jack the first time  :signLOL:)

As Sy said it's easy to do just awkward due to its location.

I can do it on Axle Stands in about 30-40mins.

Where are you located?

depending on the weather.

once you locate it (from underneath, bhind the engine drivers side, on the turbo)  it is self explanatory.  take bolts out, put new DV on, replace bolts, and tighten evenly.

also let the car cool down for plenty of time.  it really hurts when you dont  :ashamed:

The toughest part of that pcv renewal will be taking off the engine cover.
I start at the right rear of the engine cover. You will need to pull and swear to get it off if it hasn't been off before or the grommets weren't lubed when it was put back at the last service.
Without traction power is nothing!
