Help with selling Front OEM Brakes
« on: June 18, 2010, 08:55:35 am »
I recently had my front brakes replaced on my ED30 and now have the OEM discs and calipers sitting around.  I've given them a quick clean.  Brake pads may well need replacing given the mileage.

Does anyone know if there is a market for these and given they have done 23K miles how much should i ask for them?

Can't get over how much they weigh but i guess they have to stop the car.  :rolleye:

Yup I was surprised at the weight of the R32 kit.

My 312 setup is still sat in the garage. Just waiting to find time to fit it to the Silver Slingshot

Does anyone know if there is a market for these

^^^ Yes, but it'll all depend on how worn they are. I bought 2nd hand Ed30 brakes from on there three months ago, that were almost new - they had done 8-10k miles, IIRC.  Paid about £60 and included pads with about 70% meat on them too.

they have done 23K miles

^^^ Is that 23k miles of nice motorway miles, or 23k miles of ragging the car round country lanes?

Well...i've only owned it for around 7000 of those miles.  I tend to be pretty soft on the brakes.

I'm getting new front discs and pads together with new rear pads fitted on wednesday for about £220, just for comparison.

No idea, Joe.  You'll know better than me.

I may put them in the for sale section.  The problem is they weigh a tonne so delivery will be £35+!!  :sad1:

You may find there's a bit of interest from older mk5 140TDI drivers by advertising the brakes on uk-mkivs or somewhere similar. The GTI brakes would be an upgrade for the lower powered TDIs and as a bonus are already painted.
Other than that I would go along, as suggested, the route of keeping them in the shed and putting them back on the car when you sell it as the upgraded brakes you have just put on will always fetch better money and be easier to sell once you sell the car.

Edition 30 and the GTI brakes are the same...just the .:R32 that has the bigger 345mm(?) disc as apposed to the 312mm on the ED30/GTI...

Chaps,
What are the R32 front brakes worth, out of interest? For example with 5k miles covered.
