Boot spoiler question
« on: June 19, 2010, 07:57:30 am »
Does the GTi have a different boot spoiler to the standard car?  Any other differences to the tailgate (other than the GTi badge)?

Cheers
Richard.

It is a different spoiler on GTI yes. Other than that the tailgate itself is the same!  :happy2:

Thanks - I thought so.

The 2005 GTI I've bought had a read bump 4 months after first registration and it looks like they replaced the rear spoiler with a standard one :(

Don't suppose someone could take a couple close up pics of the GTI spoiler so I can make sure I get the correct replacement?

Other than a dealer - anywhere else stock the GTI spoiler?

Many thanks
Richard.

A normal golf does not come with a spolier however the gti and r32 spoilers are the same. Your looking at about £200 from the dealers alongside the spolier brake light.

This is what mine looks like - which doesn't seem to be the same as the R32 ones.

I'm getting the car machine polished to help with the swirl marks.

Defo not a GTI spoiler.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thats not even a spoiler, just a standard part of the tailgate. If im not mistaken the spoiler will sit on top of that.

Then why's it painted?!?!

Its just the top part of the boot lid...

From the picture to me it looks like the standard part of the bootlid...the metal part which is painted on all the MK5 Golfs and on the GTI/ED/R32 the spoiler is plastic and I can only imagine it will be bonded to that bit pictured above.

Could be wrong of course...maybe some more pictures would help us determine what it is or isnt?

Hi Richard,

I have a genuine VW Caractere gti spoiler for sale if you're interested. I brought it from a vw garage/dealer on ebay (Jct600 VW York). Was gonna have it on my gt but won't need it now as I'm looking to sell the car. The one I got just sits on top of the existing metal lip (spoiler?) on top of the boot.

Part no. is 1k0 071 640.

Let me know if you might be interested...

Thanks for the responses :)

Sounds like the spoiler must have been damaged in the shunt and they didn't bother replacing it  :rolleye:

It is not painted or primed, just as it comes...

Looking for £70 + pp, would cost you a little over £200 from vw.

Thanks for the pics Mandy.  Very interest, just got to do some more research first :)

How alike is the Caractere to the standard one that comes on the GTI?

Cheers
Richard.

I think the ones that come on the gti are designed by Caractere, can anyone confirm this?

VW sell this spoiler on their website:
