Seat height
« on: June 22, 2010, 02:50:54 pm »
Anyone know if the front seat height is the same on cars with the storage drawers fitted, to those without?

I ask because my other half has a Mk5 Golf Sport, with the sports seats...and although her car sits higher than mine, her seats sit noticably lower than my Mk6 GTI seats.
Her Mk5 does not have storage drawers under the front seats...mine does...and her seats must be a good 25-30mm lower than mine.

So, do Mk5 seats just sit lower than Mk6 seats...or do the storage drawers force the seats to sit higher?
Anyone know?

If the drawers force the seats to sit higher...they are coming out and I'm going to mount the seats lower!

The drawers force the seats higher.

It's surprising how much difference it makes to sit as low as possible - Much much better.

Thanks Robin,

What a nightmare!
I asked the monkeys at the dealership that and was told NO.
So I ordered the storage pack...only to find the drawers are too damn small to be useful...and I end up higher.

Does anyone know if the subframes are different?
Or can you whip the seats out, remove the drawers and re-fit in the lower locations?

I can't believe how much nicer the seating position is in her Mk5 Sport, over my Mk6 GTI...

I know that on my 2005 model, it came without the underdrawer seats which I retro fitted shortly after buying the car. What I have noticed is that even with the seat at it's lowest position, there's still a ton of space under the drawers. So much in fact that for a year or so, I had a CD changer under my seat, and as I'm over 6' tall, usually have the seat almost at the bottom of it's travel, and the drawer still cleared the CD changer.

It doesen't matter if you have am Mk.V or a Mk.VI and if you have the drawers or not.

The different height depends on the type of seat. Unfortunately the GTI Topsport seat
is not as low as the sport seat of the Sportline/GT/GT Sport models.

I had both types on my own, all fitted with the drawers and I talked to other owners
who had the same problem. I never measured ist but 20 or 30 mm seem realistic.

Any ideas mounting the seats in a lower position are welcome !!

A while ago another GTI driver told me I should try lowering my seat and it would make a difference. I was very sceptical about this but it really does make you feel faster! Definitely to be recommended. Sorry, well I'm not sorry at all!, I've got those nasty rare-as-rockinghorse-poo Recaro's so can't help.

If wasn't a fool  I'd have them as well.

When I ordered my 2nd Golf they made the Recaros with grey cloth only and I wanted
the classic GTI-look.
The Recaros were a great deal for 1200,-- €. Later I could have changed the cloth or so.
Now I'm little bit sad cos new ones only come in parts for 1500,-- € one seat. And on
Ebay they are nearly as expensive as new.

Recaro Pole Position aren't fully adjustable, but they are very lightweight.

Dropping down the standard GTI seat by one inch would be helpful.
