My car got keyed :-(
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:13:04 pm »
Hi guys

Parked my car in town at the weekend and when I got back, discovered it had been keyed :-(

After a bit of a cry (!) I tried a bit of T Cut - no effect so I took it to my local body shop for a repair quote.

Got the quote today - £193!  :-(  I was thinking more along the lines of £100 but now I can't afford for it to be repaired and have to live with seeing it damaged everyday until I can save up...  :-(((

Does anyone know a way I can fix this by myself? I have some VW touch up paint but obviously the damage line is so thin I can't think of a way I could do anything about it...   :sad1:

You can touch it up yourself but it will stand out, the same thing happened to my sister's black A3. All along the bonnet, on the roof and it's a very deep scratch. I'm going to have to do it in a couple of weeks, touch it up and try this poorboys black hole. You could do the same and pics would help judge how bad it is.

Maybe use a touch up pen, very carefully, then perhaps try claying straight after whilst the paint is still soft, to remove excess paint in the scratch?

At least it would sort of semi cover the line somewhat.

Its probably a bit involved and not really something i'd want to try on my own car but something along these lines might do the job....

Thanks for the replies... I suppose it could have been a lot worse but it's still horrible nonetheless - I love my car so much and to have someone with no respect or out of jealously just damage it... well I'm sure you all know how I feel! My family were all like "well there's no point having nice things in this world because people will always ruin them" - no sympathy! They don't understand though.

Will try and get a pic up tonight so you can all see...

.
I can understand how gutted you feel. It's such pointless vandalism and difficult not to take personally. Glad you aren't thinking like your family and are determined to enjoy your much loved car in spite of the scumbag vandals - You can't give up what you like because of scum.

You'll find a way to get it repaired properly in due course and then it's just history.

whoever did this I hope their balls drop off.
But i'm a firm believer in that what goes around comes around.
If this jealous numpty has a car, the same or worse (i hope) will happen to him.

Thats really sh*tty luck Em.  :sad1:

It can be fixed though and you will soon forget about it.  :happy2:

Why not take it to a couple of different places for more quotes.  :happy2:

Sorry to hear this. I can't see what motivates people to do such a mindless thing.

It may be worth Googling 'Langka chip repair'. I bought some of this stuff a year ago incase I acquire a stone chip but i've read reviews where people have fixed scratches. Basically, you add the paint to the scratch /chip. Allow to dry a little before adding what I assume to be some sort of solvent to a cloth wrapped tightly around a card and runb the affected area. You should be left with just the chip / scratch filled and t the same level as the normal paint surface.

Like all these things, probably a bit hit & miss but probably worth a go!

Not very good photos but you may be able to see - it's all the way across the nearside rear panel...

Had some good news this afternoon - may be able to get it done for nearer £100 - still rubbish that I have to pay in the first place but that's a more reasonable price I think  :-)

Well that's not as bad as I thought, my sister's goes through the clear coat and base coat. You might be able to get out yourself with just poorboys or some serious t-cutting.
