Faulty Rear wiper

When i turn my engine on my rear wiper comes on and wont go off untill i push the wiper stalk back and forward but sometimes i have to turn the engine off and on again can anybody tell me why

I'm guessing your car is an 05 or 06 plate. Many suffered exactly the same problem including mine. Curiously, VW replaced the rear wiper motors under warranty and that cured it. Not sure if VW would pay (assuming you're out of warranty). Mine used to only very occasionally do it and I could have lived with it if it was an expensive fix.

You might be able to get a motor off a breakers or even second hand. I think some on here have removed the rear wiper for looks and may have a motor to flog?

mine also does this, will be going to get vw to fix it very soon when i can be bothered to drive round in a 1.1 fox

I have a complete rear windscreen wiper system including motor which I have removed from an 07 Gti (weight saving) its at VW Racing in Milton Keynes, PM me if your interested.
