Guys

I'm considering purchasing a set of xennons from the states.. would there be any issues with fitting these to my ed 30?

Off the top of my head i dont think so as there should be a switch on the inside to switch the beam from left hand drive to right hand drive  :happy2:

Ask the seller if it has this switch!

I'm not 100% on this but I think that there are still different versions for LHD and RHD markets.  From what I recall the switch doesn't actually convert the beam pattern for the other side of the road, it just cuts the "high" part of the light off, much as the  stickers you can buy do.

Had a little look on ETKA and it lists the following HID headlights:

  • 1K6 941 039 - Left headlight for right-hand traffic only
  • 1K6 941 040 - Right headlight for right-hand traffic only
  • 1K6 941 039 A - Left headlight for left-hand traffic only
  • 1K6 941 040 A - Right headlight for left-hand traffic only
  • 1K6 941 039 B - Left headlight; US design
  • 1K6 941 040 B - Right headlight; US design

So I'd say that at the very least they will be "US design", whatever that entails.  Given that ETKA lists specific units for LHD and RHD markets though, that would suggest to me that they're either not switchable at all, or can only be switched to make them legal (i.e. by chopping the high part of the beam pattern off).

Thanks for that mate.. so i take it UK xennons would be the following:

# 1K6 941 039 - Left headlight for right-hand traffic only
# 1K6 941 040 - Right headlight for right-hand traffic only

No, you need the two headlights with the "A" suffix, i.e. for left-hand traffic.  Left-hand traffic refers to the side of the road traffic drives on rather than which side the steering wheel is on.

Sorry if I confused anyone -- I just copied the text from ETKA which unfortunately only talks in terms of which side of the road traffic drives on, not which side their steering wheel is on.

I'm pretty sure it's Hella.  I know they make the standard halogen units and they also make a number of after-market headlights for the MK5 golf, including "xenon-look" lights which use the same headlight design as the HID projectors but take a H7 halogen bulb instead.

Just checked on-line & it looks like they are by automotive lighting. Is etka the official parts ?
