Looking at a mk5 GTI this weekend... part 2!

Had some great advice on my last post, but now i'm looking at a GTI at a VAG dealer in the morning

Its an 07/07 GTI DSG car with 44,000 miles. Last service was carried out at 34,000 miles on longlife servicing

They know it needs a DSG service, but they are willing to change it over to time and distance servicing as well, as i only use a car at weekends so only do around 5000 miles a year. Would this service be a 'big' one? or just oil and filters?

Is there anything i need to look out for with regards to the DSG when i go for a test drive?

Any other tips on noises and things to look out for would be gratefully received!

and if i change it to time and distance servicing is it recommended to still use longlife oil?

Yep make sure you continue to use longlife oil. The big service is at 4 years old. There is also the the cam belt/water pump when the car is over 4 years/60K, although some people leave it longer.

As far as I know the DSG service is just the DSG box oil change but some of the DSG folks can fill in the detail.

Good luck tomorrow.  The only reason I asked about the deal, is due to their being a few Ed30's for sale (some on this site) that are very good deals.

Yes indeed. Got an adequate deal in the end, but saved a fair packet on its replacement due to having no P/ex, so saved a fair bit overall.  The chap who bought it had looked for ages, and was the Body shop manager for Bentley UK (not dealers - the factory).  He showed me a couple of car park dings, which I could never find again.................

Nice chap, and he got a nice car, he reckoned it was the best he had seen, so he bought it!

yeh i just had my 4 year service and cam belt change vw wanted bend me over a barrel and shaft me.so i took it to a friends garage who is ex vw who started his own garage it was done for a fraction of the price 150 for service and 200 for the cambelt runnuing great now apart from aircon compressor gone typical so check that it works before you buy

New cambelt, tensioners & new waterpump fitted by dealer for £299 including vat....there are some deals out there especially if the workshops are quiet.
