Misfire/stutter under hard accereration
« on: July 02, 2010, 08:41:18 pm »
Any ideas??
My car has started to misfire/stutter when i accererate hard in 1st and 2nd gear in the dry, as if the rev limiter kicks in. But this might be at only 2-3k revs. Also, most of the time the car feels like it has not been remapped.(its been remapped at Custom Code).

Has anyone else had these issues??

Hiya - get someone local to you to do some VCDS logging if you do not have access to it yourself. Could be a coilpack issue, but more likely to be associated to timing issues. Without logging no-one is going to be able to do anymore than an educated stab in the dark  :happy2:

Mine did the same when a coilpack was failing  :happy2:  Oh and when the it did go, it caught fire within 20 seconds and went up like a firework.  This doesnt happen often glad to say.  I was also glad I didnt have an engine cover on at the time as I was running an aftermarket intake and could see which coilpack had turned itself into a roman candle  :signLOL:

Just had my car checked out and there was no fault found! Ive been advised to replace the spark plugs and fuel filter as they have  probably not been replaced since new and the cars just turned 75k.
Which plugs should i get?
My GTi is a 54reg !

Change of plugs to irudiums and some gap closing cured this on the rocco

Where did you take it? Just scanning with VCDS won't always give you a firm fault code.

If it's stuttering under boost then it could be a weak/dying coilpack as mentioned but if you're on 75k and don't know if the plugs have been done, definitely get them done. Service interval for plugs is 40k but I wouldn't leave them that long either TBH.
Bargin!! and i can vouch for ben knowing his stuff! the guys an ECU freak!
