If you have VAGCOM you can check the SW controller model number....

From here you can work backwards to see if the slip ring is Type 2 or 3 (only type 1 will not work)...

Do a Google search with your part number 1K0 953 54 ??

Removing the controller is a pain... there are clips front and rear (that you cannot see) and a "secret clip" inside.  To release the secret clip I used some T&E earth wire to poke down the little hole in the front of the controller.

Repeating everthing again in the next day or two (waiting for TC  :happy2:) so I will try to take some pics....

If you are local, call over I will try to give you a hand or point you in the right direction.

i had steering wheel and everything off last night to change the stalks over but got the the module and slip ring and couldnt do it so everything went back on to try another day lol

Still haven't managed to get an answer to the above - can anyone help please?  Also need confirmation that TC's controller (if he still has it) is the right one for my 08 reg manual ED30 - the part number is: 1K0 953 549 BG (and it's from his DSG car).  Thanks.

Bought TCs controller last week.

You need to do loads of google(ing) cross ref. all your part numbers.

Real mine field. There are three types of slip ring, each type has three sub types of controller.  None are interchangeable.

The buttons should be fine.

If I can help more pls pm me.

No problem, I think I'd already decided they were more trouble to sort out that they are worth!!
