IIRC some of the ports will be empty at the back of the quadlock depending on your equipment, such as if you don't have the CD changer / ipod prep / phone kit.  Wouldn't worry about that (though if you want to listen to anything other than the radio when using the nav you will have problems).

TBH it sounds as if you simply have a duff unit.  I know there is a repair kit for the DVD reader.  Does it accept CD's?  I think there are two seperate reading heads, one for a DVD and one for a CD.  Might be the issue.  Any chance of punting it back to where you got it from?

This is a good resource for nav problems:

Does the actual unit power up?  I doubt there is a seperate power supply for the nav part.  It was a simple plug and play for me from a base spec RCD300 to MFD2 ...

I think there is a transport mode to stop the heads moving about and getting damaged during transport.  I don't know if this is software enabled or if its a physical locking mechanism.  Maybe worth looking into but there is a good chance I'm just speaking out of my arse here ...

yeah powers up perfect, i actually have it in the car now, the radio works fine its just the cd drive wont work... its very strange, i thought if there was a fault wit cd drive it would come up on the screen saying fault, and when you changed from rcd 300 to mfd2 can you remember if your quadblock had the blue or green blocks?
