What is my Ed30 worth???
« on: July 06, 2010, 09:54:18 pm »
i put my ed30 up for sale recently in the for sale section and was perhaps a bit brave with the price even tho the car is stunning, its Tornado red 3dr with ipod glovebox and rear tints, recent cambelt and fsh from vw,car has just turned 40k, recently given a 5 day detail by gleammachine in mint condition apart from the odd stone chip. What can i realisticly expect to get for it and what should i put it up for, im thinking of gettin a scirocco dsg next

If I were looking to buy your car, I'd probably be looking to pay no more than 14k. The mileage is a tad high for the car's age, and you haven't mentioned any sought after options eg rns, xenons etc...

This is just my opinion though, I'm sure the right buyer will come along...  :happy2:

only options are the factory tints and the ipod in the glovebox, trade price for the car last month was 13550 and that dont really take into account how clean the car is, i guess £14 is about right, the mileage was done by the previous 1st owner who traveled up the motorway to see his kids at uni, and took the car to switzerland before he sold it

Bought one similar to yours with a few less miles for 14k, was DSG tho.

I think even at 14.5k it'd be snapped up

Ed's are a funny beast to sell at the mo.  i recently sold mine (and struggled to sell it I might add) Mint with low miles, and I say it was mint, others reckon it was better than new.  20K miles.  Spec was poverty spec, Cruise, and Armrest were the only options.  Had 4 fairly new PS2's, FSH, even had unused Red trimmed Genuine mats.

Still struggled to get an acceptable price.

I do think there is a romantic notion that Ed's are worth that much more over a standard Gti.  I sadly think that this is not borne out given the market reluctance to buy.

I had 4 viewings, 3 wasters who wanted it for nothing, and the final guy was a genuine buyer, who knew what he was looking at and the condition of the car.

Sorry if that bursts the bubble, but just my recent experiences, which are borne out by the number on prolonged sales in the Trader, on PH and even on this site.

Exactly the same thing happened with the Mk4 Anni, they were fetching crazy money for what seemed like ages, there was talk of "Modern Classics" being banded about for a car that was still in production. Some guys put big big money into late low mileage anniversarys and we're blowing 4-5K in valuation when the bubble burst.........

I've seen ED30's being advertised on here for nearly £20k    :stupid:    I'm sure B3n will back me up but as far as the trade is concerned an ED30 will be worth about £900-£1200 quid more than the same GTI for DSG add £600.

I can well believe the comments made about expected values falling short of expectations. Ed30s like any car fall in value and are only sought after by a select few, (and are only recognised as different by even a smaller number).

As said by SB give B3n a PM as a cars salesman he might be able provide some more detail. (Sorry B3n if I have outed you)

There's a dealer in edinburgh, George McKay....still trying to punt an 07, albeit low mileage tornado red for £18k!!!! :stupid:

I having been surveying the ed30 meerkat for a while now, the prices are all over the place. So put it up at the price you are happy with and be patient.

For some illogical reason I won't even look further at one it it doesn't have high line..... What was it a fifty quid option? But a bugger to retrofit (I believe)....can't really understand why a) it's not standard and b) peeps don't spec it. Prolly costs vw much more to tool up production to cope with the choice.....

After a few conversations with the lovely people at Glass's Guide they have agreed to now include the Edition 30 in their book as of next month!

This will help greatly as it will give more of a stable platform from which to price specific cars and should help to stabilise prices which seem to be varying wildly!!  :happy2: :star:

Well that could well spell trouble for ED30 owners....

The vast majority of ED30's are sold by dealers, you wont find dealers getting teary over an edition 30 over a normal GTI so this will definetely have a negative effect on values.

They'll just see it as a Colour coded GTI with some extra BHP, did 7 fun years in the motor trade from starting from selling 205's in a peugeot showroom to a director of a commercial finance and contract hire company.

I know they're a great car and a real supercar slayer in the guise of cars like Hurdy's and Matts but they are what they are and once there's definitive guidance to the trade in the forms of a Glass's Guide/CAP entry the situation will evidently present itself that you can buy one on here for what people think they're worth or one for 2 Grand less at your local performance centre.

At the end of the day the trade will ruthlessly value it as colour coding and stage 1 Revo, not everybody will see them for the bags of fun - modding blank canvas that we do.

They'll be desireable and will sell quicker just not for huge ticket prices.

And if the traders get a whiff you're cars been modded, even if back to standard they'll give it a kicking.....

Its Mk4 Anni history repeating itself

Nathan despite my negative tone, I sincereley hope you're right......but we'll see!

Ive got this image in my head of a skeleton sat in this black and red Eddie!
