20k to 35k miles - what needs replacing/goes wrong?
« on: July 06, 2010, 09:53:17 pm »
My Ed30 is on 18k miles at the mo and was wondering what the potential costs may be if I keep the car for a further couple of years/ 17k miles?

Apart from servicing, what if anything have people had to replace on these between 20k and 35k miles?

Well whatever needs replacing it surely must be more cost effective than buying another car.
I've only done 7600 miles but the car is over 4 years old.

At 4 years you will need to (recommended) replace cam belt & water pump. Managed to haggle down to £380 for mine to be done. I also purchased a 2 year VW service plan which gives me 2 years servicing for the one off cost of £299. This also includes a MOT each year and brake fluid change etc!

If you're happy with the car then why not hand on to it?

At 49k miles (owned it since 29k) my car has had a new tie rod end, some tyres, some oil and thats about it.  Still on the original pads and discs ...

As above mate, its not every day you see a candy white edition 30....... keep it!
Its kinda hit or miss with the pricing of services and especially cambelt and water pump replacement. Theres a huge difference across the country with dealers  :booty: everyone!

^^ True, just had my 5 year / 50k service, water pump and cambelt done at the stealers for £500.  A few months ago they wanted just shy of £600 for the timing belt alone but my local stealers have had some good offers lately.  And were wearing a mask previously ...

Cam belt tensioner seems to be quite common, if the engines abit squeekie when at idle when cold, get that sorted if you have warranty.
