quick advice pls re mixing tyre types

Wonder if you could offer your opinions for me please. I have F1 assymetrics all round...rear has about 8mm, fronts 4, one of the front has a small bulge. I have an mot imminent. I will therefore need at least 1 tyre.

Now...
1. Should I try and source a new assymetric to replace the bulged one only.
2. replace out 2 fronts with PS3's and keep the not yet dead tyres as emergency spares.
3. Is it in anyway acceptable to change the bulge assymetric tyre with a ps3...or is mixing tyres a no no in our cars?

between road tax, mot and potentially 2 new tyres its an expensive month! All opinions happily received.

Id always replace tyres in pairs

When I first had a pair of GY Asymmetrics I ran them with GY Directionals on the other axle and this randomly actioned the ESP at high speed in bends - Not nice!

GY Asymms were out of stock earlier this year so, on Goodyear-Dunlop's advice, I currently have the Dunlop Sports Maxx Asymmetrics on one axle and so far no problems.

Never mix tyres on the same axle.

Ok...I checked my nsf tyre and its less than I thought in it, so I have to swap it out too I reckon.

I think I have decided upon 2 Michellin PS3s, that will leave me with the front axle with ps3s and the rear with Goodyear assymetrics....

Anyone see an issue with this mix?

I am shying away from the goodyears because in 2 years I think I have replaced 2 tyres due to sidewall bulges...I have also heard the michellins are slightly harder wearing, these front two lasted less than a year (although wear wise I think theres still a couple of thou, left in em ...were it not for the side bulge).

Camskill are cheaper than costco, but by the time I factor in delivery (£5) and fitting (£15 a corner) then the whole deal is DEARER than Costco and theres the hassle of being in when the driver delivers etc.

So vive la differance...and I will report in due course how the PS3s perfrom over the F1s which thus far (apart from tehhe side wall issue) have been pretty good.

I will keep the old tyres (well the one without the bulge) in me garage just in case.

I'll be doing the same in due course: Mixing Goodyear/Dunlop asymm's with Michelin PS3's until both axles are PS3. I've heard nothing but glowing reports about the PS3's.

  thanks RR, I'll get out to Costco asap....notice that there is the beginnings of a GB on PS3s but to be honest I cant wait for that to be confirmed etc..

Hopefully do this at the weekend (or tomorrow)...

I'd be tempted to stick the Goodyears on the front and the PS3's on the back, that way guarantees that the older tyres wear out first.

....Yes. I've always been advised to stick the new pair of tyres on the rear axle of a FWD car - It reduces a tendency for the back to step out in certain circumstances, especially in the wet.
