Router on or off......
« on: July 09, 2010, 12:23:27 pm »
This stems from a thread I have read on another forum.
Personally, I leave my router on 24/7 - I very rarely switch it off (only if Im going to be away for more then a few days). However, I was surprised at the number of people who switch their routers off when not in use.

So, what do you do?

my linksys has been switched on for 5years now had to reboot it twice.

Heating up and cooling down components just adds more unneeded stress imo

Mine runs 24x7 but also acts as my VPN server so i can VPN in to my home stuff if i need to get anything, but the PC etc is off and i use WOL to fire it up if i need to get to it.

Ours stays on 24/7. It's in the same room as all the heating equipment for the house aswell which gets rather hot and we've never had a problem with the router.

Mine's always on. Except when I need a spare plug socket, at which point the router gets unplugged.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
