Beat an R32 Turbo today ... We cant figure out why
« on: July 11, 2010, 12:22:03 am »
Hi guys. a friend of anthonys came down today to have a spin in his car as hes thinkin of getting stage 1 jbs turbo, they decided to get to 2nd gear then both accelerate so his mate could see the difference in power and the standard r32 pulled away from anthony so i tried with my ED30 and did the same. his clutch has been slipping and its booked in the end of the month to be done but could there be another reason for the lack of acceleration? the boost/power was there with the turbo it just wouldnt pull like it should, it should have pulled way ahead of me .... any ideas? cheers :-)

What power was the car? The R32's benefit will be standing start with the 4wd, once moving its just dead weight so you'll have a weight advantage

Sounds like there is a problem with the map as a r32 with 400bhp pull very hard so I would be getting jbs to have a look at it asap

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

A standard ED30 is quicker than a standard R32 I can confirm that.

As for the turbo'd R32 is that a JBS verified 400bhp or somewhere independant.

i reckon it got beaten because the inside of the engine is slowly eating away at itself.  I really cant see an ed30 keeping up with a 400hp R32.  so there is something amiss, either its rubbish mapping or there is something wrong with that R32

How would the map alter all of a sudden? its been fine for 6 months. its booked in with jbs at the end of the month for the clutch and stage 2. he best give them a ring tomorrow. as you can guess i was over the moon about it but anthony was and still is peed off...

If it has been fine I would suggest that they get some logging done, most issues such as this are down to boost leaks.

if the clutch is slipping then disregard the test! You cant compare a car that isnt running properly to ones that are!

Thanks for some of the comments ... Didnt ask for critisism ...

Ian, it was JBS that verified 400bhp

It has been runninng fine cos he left me standing when i first had my ED30

You are right there it has still annoyed him though, will just have to wait and see what JBS have to say

400bhp in a 4wd isn't the same as 400bhp in a FWD. The drivetrain losses are quite a bit bigger with a 4WD, so it may well be that the R32 has less horsies to the floor than a tuned ED30. Also figure into the equation that an R32 is a good 100-150kg heavier than an ED30 and it becomes a closer call than you'd think. :happy2:

I went up against the JBS 440bhp R32 and he lost to 60mph and to the finish line. James said that he screwed the change to 3rd, but I'd already got him beat by then :signLOL:
Golf R gone.

I ran against a 600bhp VR6 Turbo. 2nd gear off a roundabout up to 140..........pulled about 5 cars on him.

he was spinning in every gear.......power is nothing without control they say :driver:
