A few of the lads on here I've noticed have been going to Skoda for various services Fletch.

Have you given your local Skoda a call? I bet they'd be competitive  Only a phone call too...

To give you some ballpark VW prices.....

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing

Had my 4th year service a couple of months.  I took out the £299 service offer when I booked the car in which gives you 2 services, 2 MOT's and a brake fluid change.

I also had the cambelt changed for £299.  The price did start around £600 but when I said I could get it done at another dealer cheaper, they matched the price.  Strange they come up with these high figures if the service pricing off VW's own website is a lot less!  Unless these prices don't apply to the GTi.

The DSG oil is changed at 40k miles, not 4 years.

I thought the DSG oil change was 40,000 or 4 years , whatever came first but i see from the VW site it says 40,000 so looks like i can leave mine for awhile longer.

Mines on about  37,700 so im looking at the DSG Oil / Filter change and a cambelt (it's a 2005).

If it helps, i've been quoted £700 for a full service inc brake fluid change, DSG Oil & Filter change, Cambelt & Metal impellor water pump change & power steering belt if needed.
That was from an independant, seems a bit steep I thought... Considering it's had a service before I bought it, for my own peace of mind i'll prob just change the sparks, fuel filter, air, oil and pollen filter & oil myself first to lessen the cost.

Local VW dealer wants £299 for the cambelt, £150 for the DSG oil & Filter change - yet £100 more for a water pump change! Im going to tell them tommorow if I bring the water pump (official part) can they fit it for free as it's not like it's extra work when they do the cam belt!
They also said they would do cruise control for £160 parts / labour all in, considering mines an early GTI it's a good price I think.

No, 40,000 miles for the DSG Oil & Filter change.

People on here generally tend to be quite fussy (and rightly so) about their cars, so may sometimes do things earlier like after 4 years, perhaps if they don't do much mileage.

It's like fuel filters, they generally say change them every 20-30k miles IF that, but you'll find many do it every 10k out of habit, for parts that are pennies, it's worth changing them more often to keep the car in tip top condition.
