Update to this:
Was at JKM yesterday. Somewhat typically, car displayed absolutely no problems at all driving home from work on Tuesday and going to JKM, then to London, and then home yesterday.

Today on the drive to work, stutter stutter.

Conclusion? Car doesn't like going to work.

Definitely starting to sound like some sort of sensor issue. Must get it VCDS'd at the Jekyll and Hyde meet next week.

So DomT was kind enough to VCDS my car at the J&H meet. This is what he found:
Address 01: Engine        Labels: 06F-907-115-AXX.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 907 115 A    HW:
   Component: 2.0l R4/4V TFSI G00 0070
   Revision: --H01---    Serial number: VWZ7Z0D1164430
   Coding: 040300031C070160
   Shop #: WSC 00004 210 87564

1 Fault Found:
004195 - Fuel Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached
               P1063 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 00100010
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 5
                    Mileage: 161826 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 09:39:43

             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 3003 /min
                    Load: 28.6 %
                    Speed: 120.0 km/h
                    Temperature: 66.0°C
                    Temperature: 19.0°C
                    Absolute Pres.: 980.0 mbar
                    Voltage: 14.224 V

Readiness: 0000 0001

No other errors.
Ross-Tech wiki does not contain this error. Googling is not too helpful; someone on a 2.7TDI Audi reported this issue but was resolved by regenerating the DPF. Not really applicable for my case.
The only other thing I found was on a guide to errors in an Audi A2 1.6:
http://vwforum.vwforum.ro/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=178112
As likely causes, this is what it says:
Air in fuel system, fuel system leak, fuel lift pump, fuel bypass valve, fuel pressure control valve, high pressure fuel pump.

Air in fuel system or fuel system leak seems unlikely to me.
Possibly some more VCDS logging is required; anyone have any further thoughts what it might be? JKM checked out my cam follower and said it looked fine. I presume the HPFP is running alright; I'm on my stock map right now and this occurs.

I'd do some live road logging of fuelling related blocks as the next course of action. Worth giving Keith at JKM a call too?

Eeek, that's a bit scary  :surprised: I'm scouring that thread now.
I'll give Keith at JKM a call on Monday... as for tomorrow I'm going to go to Paris and drive back Sunday  :chicken: too late for me to back out of that now!

Edit: some digging around, that Nurburgring car has a different fault:

We have a car on our ring trip running this fault: -

16471/P0087/000135 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure: Too Low

It's pulling back the power above 4000rpm at higher speed.

Any ideas??

A quick bit of logging following the guide on Ross Tech wiki shows the requested pressure isn't being meet about 4k rpm by upto 10bar.

Mine is an intermittent problem, and it's noticeable at lower RPMs when I request more power. So possible the HPFP isn't keep up... might need to trouble you later in the week Dom if it's alright.

That is a very similar error Marks car that occurred on route to the ring.

I would agree with Dom some more logging is needed staring with LP side of the fuel system.

Er, yes, more or less.
I went to Hedge who made logs but she behaved herself and ran perfectly.
Next day she threw a fit and was almost undrivable, so I punished her and left her at VW.

Problem was either the fuel pressure switch or the cams, apparently. Since I'd had my cam follower checked by JKM just a couple thou miles before and that was OK I told them it was likely the fuel pressure switch and asked them to replace that. This was two weeks ago. Since then she's been running much, much better. Once a week or so in the morning she may hesitate but this seems to have solved the problem for now.

Hope that's of help!
