Two weeks of my new MK5 GTI
« on: July 17, 2010, 06:47:12 am »
Hey all,

I've had my new candy white 2008 GTI for 2 weeks now.

End of first week, loss of boost and loud whistle like steam from and old kettle so it went into VW for the DV valve to be replaced.
End of this week, stuttering changes in low gears - whole mechatronic needs replacing (luckily parts will be goodwill) and carbon filter needs replacing. And still I love this car!  :happy2:

Just hope this is the last cost for a while (aside from Stage 1 and stuff I want to spend my cash on). On top of that I now live in Singapore so the damn thing costs 3 times what you guys are paying for yours, wish I'd bought one when I lived in the UK!

Spec options:
DSG box
Bi-Xenons
multi function steering wheel
Electric glass sunroof
Leather upholstery with heated seats and electric lumbar adjustment (I will never use the heated seats in Singapore!)
Heated wing mirrors (Not a lot of ice here)
Dual climate control (thank God!)
Parking sensors

I've learned loads already from reading this site, cheers to everyone who asks and answers questions  :drinking:

Marty

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like you have a fantastic spec there - I had been looking for about a month for a GT in the spec you've outlined, but simply couldn't find it, no one appeard to order the car with anything beyond the factory standard options...  :jumping:

Cheers everyone,

Keep looking Aidman, one will come up. I think the standard spec here is with a few more options already added. But you are definitely paying a premium to drive here. At the moment if I wanted to buy a new Mk6 (or any new 2.0 car) I would have to pay $44k (about £20k) just to get a certificate that allows me to buy the car. Sometimes I miss the UK!

Anyway once I'm driving I'm happy!  :driver:

I held out as long as I could Marty, but my old Civic was slowly dying on me... its not to say I'm unhappy with the car I ended up with... far from it, there are just a few extras I'd really have liked to have had out of the factory - just means the next car will be something to look forward to  :happy2:
