New front discs and Pads - OEM or aftermarket ?
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:11:22 pm »
Guys,

My soot chucker has just clicked over 53k miles and whilst the warning light isn't on yet, the front pads are pretty worn with only a few mm of friction material left. I'm looking to change them and also the fornt discs, as they too look pretty worn with quite a deep lip around the top, so I though I might as well.

Seeing as my car doesn't need super high performance brakes, and the current set up seems to be fine for me, I was wondering if anyone could recommend either going for original fitment VW Discs and Pads from the stealer, or if there are any other equal quality aftermarket brands that might be a little more cost effective.

As I said, I'm not after grooved or drilled discs or fast road or track pads, just a pretty standard set up.

Cheers

Andrew

If you know the p/ns you and after give David at SERE a shout

See my thread here;

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15763.0.html

I just bought all the service items for my ED30 from there. He is a SEAT Dealer and gives upto 40% off RRP. The p/ns for the service items were common to the Leon Cupra and ED30, so I'm guessing your brake parts may be as well.

They have wear indicators on the passenger side, think most of the info you will need will be in the links that TT has provided here:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1797.0.html
I used the guide to change my front pads as well, was all very simple, although the discs will be a different kettle of fish.
