Brakes when first driving..
« on: July 16, 2010, 02:43:46 pm »
Ill apologise now incase this is a stupid question!

But if my cars been sat for a day or two, when i first drive it there seems to be a bad grinding/knocking noise coming from the brakes, not too sure if its front or rear though.

Any ideas what this could be as none of my previous VWs or Leon FR has done this?

Cheers Josh

It's most likely just the pads rubbing surface rust off the disks, so nothing to worry about. My disks start to rust up even if I've just washed the car and left it lying for half an hour!

Ah, makes sense.. still confused as to what the knocking can be though? Sounds like its from the wheel/brake area

The knocking might be the ABS/ESP system carrying out a self test calibration - this usually happens at around 6mph.
