You only get a free case upto September, what happens after that or will the quietly redesign the iPhone before then and have them out in the wild by the time the offer ends

Umm, not sure what to do.

Had my first iPhone 4 nicked four days after launch, long story around no insurance cover, so have been waiting to see what happens with the signal stuff, might just get a white one or maybe even wait until sept

Im getting a white one asap - miss my iPhone! (I sold my 3GS just before the new one launched!)

I have a Black bumper (looks great on the white phone!) already - purchased via O2 as it was cheaper then Apple.
Not sure if I should return it for a refund or not, as Apple have a shortage of Bumpers and I may not be able to get a free one through them - they said they would source alternatives as well - not sure what these will be.

Or, should I keep the black, and get a second case - maybe a different colour bumper - as my free case..?....

Apple won't refund 3rd party cases, but was the bumper you bought from O2 a Apple one, if so then you should be able to get a refund

There are not many 3rd party cases out there

Yeh - its the proper Apple one, just purchased through O2 as it was £5 cheaper!

http://shop.o2.co.uk/accessory/Apple_iPhone_4_Bumper_Black

I received it yesterday, and it has all the Apple markings etc on the packaging as normal - so yes its an original.

Not sure if O2 will give refunds though. Im assuming they purchased a bulk lot from Apple to resell or something, so it may depend on whether Apple will absorb their cost?

You'll need to find and download the 3.1 update from the net.
I think you then open iTunes, or click the restore button, with the shift button pressed (or something like that) to search for the downloaded firmware on your system, and instal that.

A nice strong, measured response from Apple, backed up by hard facts.
