Electric wing mirrors playing up.
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:19:00 pm »
Afternoon,

Has anyone had and issues with the electric mirrors? At the minute when I select left the left mirror operates, however when I select right both mirrors move. If anyone has come across this what did it turn out to be? Switch or wiring? I'm going to pinch the switch from the parents golf later to prove the switch and I bloody well hope it's not the wiring  :scared:.

Luke.

I had the problem while still under warranty.. Not an uncommon issue. My dealer replaced the motors.

Right I've done the following.

- Changed the control switch from a working golf, problem followed over.
- Disconnected the offside motor. Nearside motor worked when both the left and right selectors were moved.
- Swapped the motors over, the problem still follows, i.e. right still controls the left motor as well.

Not typically, if it was a problem with the individual motor I'd have thought that the fault would swap over, i.e. the right controls individually while the left controls both, which wasn't the case.

I've disconnected the battery and I'm going to let the car reset itself but it's not looking good  :scared:

I thought it was always like this, adjust the right mirror which adjusts both, then adjust the left on its own, isn't it mentioned in the manual

Its controllable in the highline to enable or disable the feature

God knows dude, I've tried everything to try and isolate whether or not its an actual issue, the things thats throwing me out is why it didn't do it on the parents golf before being removed then when it was connected back up its start doing it

Did you wash your hands thoroughly between Golfs? Sounds like you carried Wing Mirror Virus between cars.

Seriously, though, is your car under warranty?

Now I'm worried that having made that crack, my car will start doing it tomorrow! Damn poetic justice.....

Do you have Highline computer? As above, I also recall seeing a selection in Set Up where this can be deactivated - take a look.

They do this af far as I know - at least 3 golfs i've tried have! The idea is that once you have them set up, you only need to adjust the right hand mirror and the left will follow suite - Try it - if you move your seat further forward as if you were another shorter driver, you will need to adjust the wing mirror accordingly. Just adjust the right and the left should cleverly match the correct setting  for your seating position :happy2:

I had an issue with my folding mirrors under warranty whereby they sometimes wouldn't unfold but a software reset seemed to cure that.

Dude, it's a standard feature. Leave well alone!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Cheers for the info chaps, seriously put my mind at ease, I don't have high line so if anyone’s available in the east midland to re-set especially the rents car as they don't know I've been nicking bits off it yet  :signLOL: I'll pass on some beer tokens  :pomppomp:

As mentioned, it's supposed to be like this.
It's a good feature as I set the mirrors how I want them, then when my fiance drives the car, she only needs to adjust the driver side and the passenger one moves too. Less for me to move back after she's done  :happy2:

Move your drivers side to suit, then move the passenger one after.

Oh, and RTFM as posted by others
