Hey folks, bit of a rant but i've been shopping around to get a cam belt & water pump, along with a DSG oil and filter change - maybe with some extras like cruise control retrofitted.
My car's on 38k on a 2005 - I am waiting for the service book to arrive so I can try and contact the last garage (prior to jun service) and see if they changed the cam belt/water pump as it should have been done @ 4 years, and the previous owner no longer lives at the address on V5 so can't contact him - when I looked in engine bay - alternator? Belt looked brand new... I know that doesn't mean anything but makes you think it might have had all belts done.
Anyway... I called a VW Specialist, got all the sales talk, and a final sum of £700 which was a bit overpriced, that was for a full service, brake fluid change & cam belt\pump\dsg oil filter change.
Considering I don't need the service (just changed everything inc sparks myself last weekend even though it was serviced by garage I bought from in June)
I then call VW who say, it's £160 flat fee to fit cruise control... I decide to go down to the dealership, give them my chassis number and ask for a price on the belt / cruise / dsg oil filter change - I wait 10 minutes, they then say they need to check it out further and will call me... That was Friday . Not heard since! Jokers!!! It's all flash havin free tea and coffee machines and a nice showroom but call me impatient I am not using them even if they offer a good price now.
Rant over lol! :)
PS> I also said why is it £100 extra to fit a water pump when doing the cambelt and they claimed it was more parts charge, so I said i'd supply an OE Water pump all legit etc they said thats fine - but we will charge you labour still!!!
Is that the same labour they charge for someone changing brake discs, but asking can they change the pads at the same time ... "Erm no sir the pads would be extra labour"
(Thats a joke but probably not far off!)
