How to confirm HPFP?
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:40:30 pm »
Another trivial question asking for help....

Recently bought an APR HPFP from the bay - item is a complete fuel pump with upgraded internals.... apparently.... How could i confirm the parts are what they are said to be?

Is there a test or are any parts stamped differently?

Thanks
Ant

i could stick a sticker on a pump.  it doesnt make it an APR one though.

@ the op  speak to JKM or awesome GTI.  they deal with apr pumps and might be able to help you.

Post a picture of it

But the only true way would be to separate the piston from inside and see if it's larger than the OEM one

yes but where would you get the right apr sticker from. If there is no sticker then we can know pretty much straight away that its not a APR pump.

There are other differences to the APR pumps compared to the others but the sticker is the most obvious, and once we have ruled on the sticker we can then move on to the more technical bits if necessary

I've sent a message to Awesome to see if they're able to help at all.
It should be internals only, so sticker or not wont count for much if he installed the internals himself.

Ideally i want to know if genuine or not without the hassle of fitting first too

This any use? Should be full size so might be annoying to view

APR pumps come complete, unlike other kits where you upgrade the internals yourself.

Do you have a link to the original ebay page?

I got a std fuel pump in my hand right now, and have been comparing with pics of your pump and pics of APR pumps on t'interweb hoping there would be an obvious difference on the shaft/spring/plunger but unfortunately theres nothing that jumps out at me

just had another look and noticed in all the images of the APR pumps I looked at the pump shaft is black, which is APR's diamond like coating apparantly , where as the picture shown and the std pump in front of me has a silver shaft, not sure this could be considered conclusive, just something I noticed
