Service Indicator
« on: July 26, 2010, 01:20:00 pm »
So, the 'Service Now!' indicator has flashed up.

Went from 3000m to 'service now' in the space of 100miles.

How does it decide when your service is due ??

Cheers
Ben

I think on mine it's set so that it comes on in 1 years time or in 10k miles time, whichever comes first.

Maybe the 1 year kicked in first before you managed to drive the 3k miles, if that makes sense?

The computer is set to km not miles, so when it runs thenot quite 10k miles - more like 9,100.... I'm sure Teutontic_Tamer said that once!

Maybe the type of useage - cold starts, short journeys, 'sporty' driving - made it ping that bit quicker...?

Is it on LL, or T&D?

Mine did the exact same thing went from 3500, down to 300 miles and then straight to service now, all I had done was a short trip 15 miles, had given it some beans once it had warmed up but nothing like WOT or redline, so was really shocked when it had popped up service now from 3000.

Anyway rant over, if your on long life then its supposed to be based on an oil sensor which will be monitoring the oil quality. but it also has parameters of maximum distance, and time.

Mine did the same on the first service. Apparently there's. limit in which you have to get it serviced (iIRC this was 1000km).

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Well mine has done 10,000 miles since the last service and the light hasn't come on yet! Me thinks it was reset wrong and maybe got switched onto longlife by accident.
