just done my 1st 1/4 mile drag!!
« on: July 26, 2010, 04:19:29 pm »
did my first 1/4 mile at pod weekend just gone ...... :driver:

a massive adrenaline rush ,on first run got carried away and missed the exit , so i  started reversing back up to the exit and got a huge bolloking as someone might have been

coming down the track!!!!

kept ballsing the start up , and i coulndnt get the launch right with dsg  :ashamed:,so more practice needed i think.

even so did about 5 runs ,my best time was 13.5 which i was quite pleased with, seen as tho its  my first go.

potentially very addictive tho ......

.
I've only done about 4 runs but JonnyC taught me not to use too high revs on DSG launch control and most importantly to ignore the other car and even the lights and only go when you are ready.

I've only tried one launch with my DSG launch and had the revs at about 2k and still got a lot of wheelspin - prob knackered tyres more than anything but it certainly felt like something that needs some practice as when i've launched previous Mk2 Golf GTi's i've slipped the clutch a bit as well as going easy on the throttle to help traction before nailing it.

Nice time mate and a good base line to put down on your first go  :happy2:
What map did you end up going with, stage 2?
Also, what terminal speeds did you get?
But more importantly, did you mother your mate in his R32?  :jumping: (or am I thinking of somebody else? )

Does DSG in the Golf not have launch control???

I thought you put it in Sport, foot on brake, floor accelerator car then sits at about 2.5krpm and you then side step the brake and hang on :driver: :driver: :rolleye:

Yeah it does Carl. But using it on a Ed30 with 100bhp over what it should have doesn't quite work to well   Normally it will hold the revs @ 3000rpm, but this is far to muchfor a modded Ed30, so I tend to hold it at around 2000rpm and feed the power in the best I can. Normally change to 2nd within 10m of setting off too.
TBH it's not any advantage at all over a manual car when launching, unless you have 4wd of course..
