VW corrosion warranty
« on: June 22, 2010, 03:00:17 pm »
Anyone tell me how long the VW paintwork or corrosion warranty is?

I have what look like 2 small bubbles of rust on the rear wheel arch after just 3 years and 24k...

12 years, you best get there quick  :signLOL:

If it's under 3 years you'll still have the paintwork warranty.

Its just under 3.5 years.

How does the paintwork warranty differ to the corrosion warranty?

Interesting topic that.

I need to find a VW dealer with a bodyshop with a good reputation around Glasgow now.

Well, just back from A dealer where the "estimator" took one look at the rear arch and said its been painted.

I then said the previous and first owner of the car is a family friend and its never been repaired, then he tried to show me a slight orange peel effect and said it wasnt present on the passenger side. However every single cm of the car is exactly the same.

He said he'd take a photo of the damage and send it to VW as they've to decide.

If they come back and say no i will be far from amused.

Im suitable raging as it is.

when you took the car to the dealer they should have a paint measuring device to tell if the car has been painted not sure how it works but i had the same problem years ago with a ford and they could tell there and then! most paint warrantys only cover rust from inside out not stone chips etc turning to rust they class it as neglect! the main dealer once again has the customer buy the short&currleys...

Indeed. However this is from the inside out as there is no stone chip.

Ok, i picked my car up last night after getting the car repaied by VW under warranty, and the rear panel has several runs, a couple of dust imperfections, and the lacquer near the door is thin.

What are my rights here, do I have to let them have a go at rectifying it, or can I phone VW head office and ask for it to be repaired elsewhere? Obviously I'd rather not risk it for a second time.

I had a bad feeling about the dealer before I went in, but told myself it would be grand because it was a main dealer.

You do have to give them a chance to rectify the job, but also you have the right to a perfect job. Just stick with it, it will come good in the end.  :happy2:

Hope so lad.

I can't believe how poor it is, lots of small flaws.
