Don't say bog standard 2.0 turbo, one of the best engines in the world :signLOL:

If it's pre 2006 (AXX engine) then it puts out 200 BHP, this goes to 255 BHP

If it's post 2006 (BWA engine) then it apparently puts out 214 BHP, this goes to 255 BHP

I got a revo 5hr free trial last year and it was awesome :driver:, been dying to get a remap since! Realisticly you will gain 30-40bhp with any supporting mods, well that's what the guy told me when I got it done.

Cheers

Max

Most likely BWA, look at the code stickers in the boot or on the drivers door area. Or you can run your numberplate on eurocarparts.com and it will tell you. :happy2:

Dont think so. It was only the new Mk6 that got the new engine. Also the folks in USA got it in their Mk 5.  :happy2:

And i am even more sure that you wont get 55BHP extra out of a stage 1 map.

That's what the revo website says, and the engine did change in 2006 and it apparently produces around 214 BHP. It's obviously quoted as 200 BHP but we all know VW play safe with the BHP figures. I'm going to find the thread I read this up on.

Edited as I just read up on it a bit more :ashamed:

I hope this is true as I've just checked and I've got the bwa engine! 14bhp better off than I thought. Good times! Seriously though, has anyone drove the aax and bwa engine and noticed any difference??

AFAIK the change was relatively small for emission purposes - the BWA engine complies with a higher euro emmisions standard that the AXX.  I've read the AXX was the last of the true 'lean burn' FSI engines.  Whatever that means ...

I suspect the some AXX's rolled off the line with more than the quoted BHP as well as some of BWA's.

I was under the impression it was the other way round. The AXX engines were less "restricted" by emission controls.
But yes it true the AXX is the last of the lean burn. Basically putting less fuel into the engine when it doesn't need it. Cruising at legal motorway speeds for example.

The the bean counters also had an input. Early GTI were sold with a huge reduced margin, some even say at a loss!!!

So wouldn't be surprised if cheaper alternate components were used too in the later 06MY.

Later cars lost 10 speaker stereo, Blue Tint Windows, Naked Roof (unless SatNav fitted) rear window seals (3DR), S3 lower arms (Before they were fitted to the Audi S3) plus some little touches like the alu trim to the ash tray.

Else the engines are physically pretty much identical. All producing a "claimed" 200PS ~ 197BHP.

Hopefully someone more knowelgeable can correct or shed more light on this.

No Golf anymore.
Enjoyed the last five years of ownership of Mk5 & 6 GTIs.
Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.

all mk5 ko3 gti's are 200bhp. mk6 is 210 i think.

and theres loads of differences between the new model engins and the older 55 05 plate cars, the older ones also came with s3 lower arms.

You wont ever get 255bhp from a simple Stage 1 remap.

I dont care what Revo say on their website, its all a load of bollocks. You will be looking at about 240bhp with just the remap.
