Megs Last Touch Detailer
« on: July 17, 2010, 07:37:11 am »
Just a quick one. Does the above remove old wax when applied after cleaning the car? Car always beads beautifully when waxed and after washing but once I apply the Last Touch it brings out the depth of shine again but it never seems to bead properly?

Cheers, Boothy.

It certainly wont remove any wax protection you may have on the car. I normally only use LT as a drying aid after washing the car and then use Dodo juice Red mist as a qd although its classed as a top up wax not a qd.
If you get some dont go mad with it cause its a sod to buff off (i quickly found this out)
For best results i found spray direct on to cloth then buff straight away. Great results!  :happy2:

Hi Boothy,

The Last Touch doesn't remove the wax, but it does cover it up slightly with a layer of it's own product, which is why it reduces the beading effect.

If you're using the Last Touch as a Quick Detailer and you still want the water to bead like it does after it's been waxed, our advice would be to use a different QD... one with a Carnauba Wax content would be ideal for what you're after.  Poorboys Quick Detailer Plus is a nice easy one to use, it smells great, leaves behind a great finish and enhances the beading, rather than reducing it.

^^^Do you not find that QD+ leaves behind an oily residue?

Try the tropical red mist, it can sit a bit longer.

Hi Stealth...  no, we haven't really had any issues with the QD+ at all.  I (Taryn) tend to use it quite a bit, mainly because I love the smell of it!  Jim's been using it for a lot longer than me so I've just asked him if he's ever had any probles with it leaving behind an oily residue and he's had none either

i normally wash and wax with lusso oro about once a month-two coats.she beads lovely etc...
and i wash her more or less once per week
i get water marks and stuff unless i use a qd.... is that ok?
is it my drying towels? or is that fairly normal esp in the hotter days as the water dries quicker than i,m getting to it?
or am i just dumb?
sorry to jack the thread a little..... :sad1:

If you're getting watermarks, the water's drying before you get to towelling. Try rinsing off one panel and drying it before moving on to the next panel.

Hi Matsu,

It may the type of water you have there or it may be as you said, you're not getting to dry the car quick enough before the water's drying.

You could try what Stealth said and rinsing each panel before you dry it, although, you may find that you end up getting the panels you've already dried, wet again.

We (especially on hot days) keep rinsing the car even while we're washing it, if that makes sense? :ashamed:  Jim washes the car with the shampoo and sheep puppet, and as he moves on to the next panel, I just keep rinsing where he's been with fresh water to make sure it doesn't dry out, that way, when we come to dry it off, it's still all completely wet.  It'll be a bit of too-ing and fro-ing if you're washing the car on your own, but it might be worth trying that out to see if makes any difference?

Hope this helps

Water marks  are a nightmare in the summer. I bought a DI resin filter last year which completely solves the problem but the exhange resin is very expensive - too expensive.

Funny you mention about Megs Last Touch affecting beading. I have found this too if heavily applied. Perhaps it's something to do with the silicones in it? It makes a good drying aid but i'm not over gone on it for use as a pure QD. Can't fault the value of LT though  :happy2:
I don't get the same problem with Clearkote Quikshine or Finishkare 425 though.

Sounds like some good options out there to try. Will have to look at them all when I run out of LT.
