Service interval question
« on: August 10, 2010, 01:34:08 pm »
Im going to look at a Golf for the wife tonight, but am a bit concerned about the service history.

Basically the car is June 08 (2 years old) and 31k miles.  Now, when I asked about the history today the dealer came back and said its only due its first service now as its on the longlife plan.

With that in mind, am I wrong in thinking it should still have had a service by now??

It should have had three by that mileage - 10k, 20k and 30k.  :stupid:

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

What a bunch of idiots, its well overdue its 1st service, i'd not want to go near it if its never had a service in that time!

Edit: Beaten to it lol

Lol,  as expected! Just wanted to be sure as it's a VW dealer...

Cheers lads.

What is different about the long life service then?

My first GTi was on a longlife service plan - basically longlife oil is used which allows you to go beyond annual/10k service (a warning tells you when to next service based on type of driving you do).

Interesting to hear other's experiences, but mine needed a service at approx 14k miles and I would think it impossible to get to 30k+ miles.

Not really, if it was set for Longlife service from day one the on board computer would trigger at about 18k miles max with a TDI or at the 2 year stage whichever was earlier.
In the circumstances you could always ring VW UK with the reg no & ask them to confirm its service history rather than rely on dubious dealer advice.
There is no way it would have exceeded 18k without triggering a service light.
