That looks like a reasonable price mate, I recently had most of that work done at a main dealer:

DSG oil and filter,
Cambelt with water pump
and Long life service

Original total was £800, which included a special for the cambelt at £299, £100 for water pump and fitting, DSG service was about £200, and minor service was £190.

I managed to get the sales department to pony some of the money up which bought it down to £650  :fighting:

But the works your after plus fitting cruise then definately seems like a good deal, especially if you get biccies

What mileage you at Rich?

I think the point is that if you feel your getting a good deal then cool...if you feel like your having your arse spanked you probably are

Agreed, whilst I am still concerned that they will call me and say "Erm, your car needs an extra wire for cruise control... As it's an earlier GTI, so it's an extra £50..." i'll tell them to sod off, as I have said it to them twice already "You are definately sure that is the all in price yeah?..."

Mind you, if the wire comes with the cruise control part itself, then im sure they will fit it as part of the deal.

If they do a good job I will mention the name of the dealership on here and see if it helps anyone else in the North Essex area :)

VW Macclesfield rang me about an hour ago with their 'special deal' prices of:

£299 for belt, pulley & tensioner
or
£399 for belt, pulley, tensioner & water pump

All this includes parts, labour and VAT, which seems pretty reasonable.

They said that the recommended time to change the belt is 4 years / 40k miles.  Does this sound about right?

Mine's an '06 with 51k on the clock.

Pablo, it's good but tell them to charge part only for the water pump, thats what the VW garage said to me, they would only charge parts not labour.

So will save you about £50.

Just been quoted timing belt, water pump, belt tensioners and rollers for £280 + VAT (£329). This was from a local specialist near Glasgow (that gets great write-ups). Looks like an excellent price based on the others mentioned in this thread.
