^^^ for Scott as he has highline, would potentially lose the RNS audio and nav features from the highline to get the d/e bluetooth working on the touchscreen.

As Rich says you need a Bluetooth Interface.  You may have one, and the best way to check is to scan for BT devices in the car using your handset.

If you don't have one and would like one it can be retrofitted.

SteveP, Darren (mortygttdi), or myself as well as others can help/supply the parts you need.

The phone button just seems to pause the stereo and scanning for BT devices revels none.

What would I need to buy and what would it cost to add BT phone compatibility?

Either something like the OEM VW/Skoda 729 or a fiscon Bluetooth kit, both around around the £350 mark.

I personally prefer the OEM and if you don't have the highline cluster display then these can be had slightly cheaper too.

Thanks Steve,

Is the highline cluster the info on your dash about navigation etc...?

If so then I do have that.

I don't care if the highline works with the phone but would like to retain its other features if possible.

Any suggestions where I could get it?

Would something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-BLUETOOTH-iPHONE-PREMIUM-NOT-FISCON-1Z0035729B-/170462597451 on e bay do the trick?

Yep that's the one, as far as I am aware that will work fine with google phones but has some issues with iPhones running IOS4.

Cool, thanks. what does: "VAG / VAS Coding is needed to operate this bluetooth kit in your car !!!"

mean?

Am I likley to have to upgrade firmware on the head unit or should it really be plug and play?

You need to enable the phone kit on the cars can gateway, a 30 second job.

Otherwise they are plug and play.

Where are you located as there are plenty of people on here with VCDS who will be able to help.

I am in North London in Hendon/Wembley.

I will have a go myself and if I get stuck I will shout for help!

Does that look like a decent price for the unit or are there any UK based companies that sell them that people on here recommend?

Thanks for all of your help.

Alex

Hi, Thanks for the info, what are these for? Mounting the unit behind the dash I assume?

The covering thing seems to indicate that there is something visible, I was hoping to just leave the phone in my pocket, is that not possible?

Mounting under the drivers seat  :happy2:

I've got other stuff under my drivers seat so BT won't fit there,  but I don't know what it is! It looks OEM though. We (my mate did it with me watching) put my BT unit behind the head unit, works fine.

Incidentally, regarding the IOS4 issue, 'ang on as I think things may be happening at Apple. :jumping:

Yesterday Apple didn't acknowledge this problem, said it was down to the car makers to keep up with the latest tech, and that I should get my BT upgraded, stupid cow.
Today, I was told that they are working on a fix!!

Hassle them at Apple Support, (a 0800 number) the more of us that do - the quicker things will happen. :drinking:
