10 speaker stereo?
« on: August 01, 2010, 04:26:59 pm »
Currently in the process of selling my TT to make way for an ED 30. I've seen cars advertised with a 10 speaker stereo and wondered what the 2 extra speakers are over the normal 8?? I presume its a sub and a center speaker?? Also who has this option and are you happy with it?

Anyway heres the TT and hopefully soon there will be an ED 30 in its place

I think the options are 6 and 10 speakers.

The 6 speakers option is the one with speakers only in front. (Three on each door)
In the back you have only wires waiting for the speakers.

The 10 speaker option is the option that you have speakers and in the back positions.

Good luck with the sale...

There are 2 options. Normally you get 8 speakers but for 10 speakers you get mids in the front doors.

You can also get 10 speakers plus Dynaudio amp.

05 GTI here also with 10 speakers and i find the sound from them is quite awful.
I previuosly had a MK4 GTI with six speakers and i could find my perfect setting, Not so with the MK5.
If i have the volume up quite load but not massively so, the speaker housing and door trim/cards start to rattle and distort the sound.
Has anyone done a speaker upgrade on their MK5?

What HU do you have?  I had the RCD300 and changed it to the MFD2.  The difference in sound quality was night and day.  Still not anything for a true audiophile to get excited about but it showed the HU was the weakest part of the system.

I have an 08 ed30 with the 10 speakers and an RNS510.  Sound is good quality but just not enough bass . I have the bass all the way up , mid down quite low and its still not up to much. Thinking about one of these http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/thb210a-speaker

I have the 10 speakers originally with RCD300 which I switched out for an RNS510, sound was a little flat with the RCD300, but with the RNS510 it is more than adequate, and goes louder than I can stand.  I have also not found a significant amount of distortion or rattle at the volumes I use the stereo at (up to about half way) Its also very good at bashing out the bass solo from The Chain (grandprix theme tune)

I dont have anything upgraded, or dyna-audio, and it would obviously depend what your comparing it too and how loud its cranked and the music type.

The only comment I do have is that with the fade set to center it does make it seem that the song is being played behind you.

There are speaker upgrades listed on the VW golf accesories page but its quite expensive, have also seen some upgrade kits and whole dyna-audio setups crop up on the bay from time to time.  Not sure how easy it would be to fit but think its supposed to make a big difference.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

I have the 10 speaker setup in my 05 GTI with the optional VW sound pack (amp) and the sound is 'ok'. I replaced the standard RCD500 with an RCDF510 and the sound quality got quite a bit better.
There's way too much road noise in a mk5 for a decent stereo system to sound much better than standard unless you use a shed load of sound proofing! That said, the standard setup, even with the amp is lacking in bass and overall quality. Mine sounds way better than standard RCD300 with 8 speakers  though  :happy2:

Did you require to install a new Can gateway to prevent battery drain?
