Engine cover rubber bits

Just noticed my engine cover was not on as securely as before.  On inspection it turns out some of the rubber bungs have torn.  These rubber bungs are the bits that go into the four holes underneath the engine cover.


Is this a common problem?  I suspect they were damaged when the car went in for servicing...and weren't replaced by VW.  Not happy!!!  :sad1:

Keen to hear peoples views and experiences...

Would these be covered under warranty?  Anyone got the part numbers for these please?

I got 2 for £3 from vw i havent got part number sorry
A good tip to get the rubber on to cover easily put a bit of washing liquid on the rubber mounts :wink:

I am sure my VW garage are having me on, they wanted £9 each for ones for mine, took it off in the end!

Certainly wasn't £9 each - think I was about £7 for three but can't really remember.  Maybe they are £9 for all four?

I suggest you lube them with some silicon grease to make removal of the engine cover next time much easier.
Best not to use normal grease as it tends to perish the rubber over time.

Perhaps VW doesn't want us to ever remove our engine covers. You'd be horrified to learn how many car drivers never open their bonnet from one service to another (according to my VW dealership).

it is in fact a reasonable design when you go to a rolling road day and see how much the cover moves on a run  :signLOL:
engine mounts vary wildly.
my cover is broken again , but I have no wish to fix it (or even fit an intake) until I have fitted new side mounts  :happy2:

Good point about the engine mounts, My engine cover used to hi my strut brace during driving which had a good 10mm clearence.
